Sadly the narrative of “well the outbreak would be even worse right now if we had open borders” is doing quite well among the fans of the camps/wall.cashead wrote:Speaking of national security, reminder that the concentration camps are still ongoing.

Re: Trump
Even the EU is shutting down borders, so there is a sensible point to strict border control at the moment. But what is happening now is not normal and should not be used to justify a crap policy.Mikey Brown wrote:Sadly the narrative of “well the outbreak would be even worse right now if we had open borders” is doing quite well among the fans of the camps/wall.cashead wrote:Speaking of national security, reminder that the concentration camps are still ongoing.

I'm not sure why that post is being construed as me arguing for completely open borders.
Though I've been enjoying the angle from a select few that Mexico is compeltely interchangeable with all of Asia/Europe and they would have flooded the country with Coronoavirus, were it not for sacred child concentration camp.

I mean, for the love of Fuck:
"President Trump on Tuesday said that he realized that the coronavirus outbreak was a pandemic before the World Health Organization (WHO) labeled it as such last week.
"This is a pandemic. I felt it was a pandemic long before it was called a pandemic," Trump said at a press conference with his coronavirus task force. "All you had to do was look at other countries."

Just started rewatching the Thick of it (ie. working from home) and there's a really good bit about the team releasing a statement to the press to inform them of the statement that they made (didn't make) earlier. They never made the statement, the press know they never made the statement, but that's not how any of this works.
It's all a gameshow. Trump is a dullard, but he has recognised that it's all a gameshow and his lack of shame or self awareness makes him fantastic at playing it.

Maybe that sounds like I'm giving him too much credit. What I mean is if you stick a normal human up there and ask them to lie like that it might bother them. His boundless narcissism is just a handy tool for others.morepork wrote:I don't think it's anywhere near that nuanced. He desperately craves recognition as being smart. That means “it’s not our fault, it’s the Chinese. We didn’t mess up a thing, we were a perfect 10.”morepork wrote:That is some sick, fucked up logic. So is labeling the virus as "Chinese." Is there any area of government these cunts will not attempt to shoe horn xenophobia into?

His supporters are blind mostly by choice and because they are infused of Fox propaganda. They cannot believe other sources of news because they all hate Trump. But they also choose to ignore everything and make up excuses. It’s like they are telling themselves “we are stuck with Trump now. No matter what. A democrat as president will be far worse. So I will drink everything Fox says, fuck plausibility “.

Yes, you have to be a certain type of character for that.Mikey Brown wrote:Maybe that sounds like I'm giving him too much credit. And technically he is not lying: he believes what he is saying. Lying implies knowing that he is not telling the truth. His moral compass is virtually non existent. I don’t think I know a similar human being in real life.

Is that not insider trading?

Democrat senator Dianne Feinstein also implicated. From toilet paper to market shares, the divide between the haves and the have nots grows ever more apparent. Interesting times.Sandydragon wrote:Is that not insider trading?

Sen. Feinstein’s husband sold shares at its minimum in a biogen. They raised after he sold: unlikely to be insider trading, morepork wrote:Democrat senator Dianne Feinstein also implicated. Sen. Johnson got out of his brother’s firm, Sen Purdue sold and bought.
Apparently both Burr and Loeffler are willing to go through the ethic investigation. Senator Burr has a precedent ( he told his family to sell shares in 2008 before the crisis hit the fan). Sen Loeffler and husband are just filthy rich (the husband is chairman of NY Stock Exchange, and chairman and CEO of the parent company) and could have got the hint to sell from thousands of places: not necessarily ethical, mind you.
Luckily TGPT is draining the swamp.

It's not exactly a secret there's this thing called coronavirus, but under disclosure you basically need to disclose or not trade, I suppose that's assuming they had information that's pertinent beyond what was already public, and assumes the shares weren't traded blindmorepork wrote:Democrat senator Dianne Feinstein also implicated. They have to get this guy off daily press conferences. Every day it ends up a massive whinge about how he is not getting enough credit. Shit is made up on the spot, sowing utter confusion. He is blurting out opinion like someone googled it for him 5 minutes prior. Please, please get him out of the way.
