Maitland in talks with Saracens & Cowan actively on the hunt for a new club. As previously mentioned the other LI Scots are going nowhere.

RGray signs a 4 year deal with Toulouse. Quite a commitment. I realise contracts can be broken but 4 years is longer than normal.

Might actually be good for Scotland. Even someone as stubborn as Vern can't justify picking Laidlaw when he's riding pine every week?

Duncan Taylor was voted Sarries Players Player of the Year. Nice for him to get that recognition from his team mates and fellow pros. Probably valued more than any media award or fans award.

Especially when you consider the quality in that Saracens squad. Well done to him, he's had a superb season after being dropped for the RWC.Chunks Baws wrote:Duncan Taylor was voted Sarries Players Player of the Year. Does anyone know why Low isn't playing for Exeter anymore? He's signed a fresh deal but this could be a serious problem considering they have an Australian international joining them for next season.
Makes the decision to take Nel to Japan even more strange. Backup needs to be developed at 3 quite urgently.

There's nothing strange about the decision to take Nel though. You might not agree with it but Cotter has made it pretty clear that he views these games as must win and so wants his strongest team.

Re: Scots Abroad VIII (or let's spot the new messiah)
I understand that but our second choice tighthead will be fourth choice at his club next season. If you can't develop players on a tour to Japan then when can you? I'm not suggesting taking a second string team just developing options in a couple of positions with blatantly poor or inexperienced options beyond 1st choice.Cameo wrote:I havent heard anything.hugh_woatmeigh wrote:Does anyone know why Low isn't playing for Exeter anymore? Probably not the place to discuss this anyway, lets pick up on the Japan thread if necessary.

The rugby paper "hints" that Huw Jones is going to Glasgow, should he relocate. No quotes or anything but I know he's visited Scotstoun before. Do Glasgow really need another centre though? I'm calling pish on this one.

Re: Scots Abroad VIII (or let's spot the new messiah)
Glasgow don't have a single centre contracted for 2017-2018 so not unrealistic. Huw Jones has another year to run so it would line up pretty well as there is no way Glasgow can retain all of that lot.Chunks Baws wrote:The rugby paper "hints" that Huw Jones is going to Glasgow, should he relocate. Damian McKenzie has been named in the NZ squad so no chance of us capping him now.

If Horne was to spend more time at 10 it might make a degree of sense
12: Dunbar, Johnson,
13: Bennett, Jones,
12/13: king Richie of Vernon.
But I'll believe it when I see it.

He's not mentally there anymore. Like Dewey he had all the tools to be a star man for Scotland but lacked the ambition and drive.Mikey Brown wrote:Where did his career go?

Did Dewey not also lack a functioning knee much of the time?hugh_woatmeigh wrote:He's not mentally there anymore. Like Dewey he had all the tools to be a star man for Scotland but lacked the ambition and drive.Mikey Brown wrote:Where did his career go?

I think so but Dewey also chain smoked and went out on the piss all the time. His rugby was never his priority. He pissed away what could have been a very good career.Cameo wrote:Did Dewey not also lack a functioning knee much of the time?hugh_woatmeigh wrote:He's not mentally there anymore.
