Re: Trump
This is just fucked up. I knew there were ignorant angry crackers in this country but now they have crawled out of the woodwork and have a mainstream platform. There were scores of fat beardy cosplay dudes flashing klan signs and yelling white supremist slogans right out in the open yesterday, egged on by Trump and his inner circle. There was pardoned Flynn the dodgy conferderate officer playing up to it, as were dozens of other worms intent on making an online/radio talk show career out of white grievance. Not once, not one single time has the government come out in support of racial equality and has spend most of this year attempting to label BLM and such like as terrorists. Not once has the reaons for anger been acknowledged, yet here we are, the government in support of pig ignorant militia groups that are getting louder and louder with their culture war. What a truly fucked up country. The worst of the worst in charge and refusing to go away. There is a serious domestic terror threat growing before our eyes, and so many people seem just fine with that. I'm not, and I don't like the envirnment one little bit.

Re: Trump
The measures to protect against extremism have proven to be effective, thankfully. The reasons for why someone who respects democracy so little was every given the endorsement of one of the major parties is another matter and I suspect there are others who are just as authoritarian in mannerisms who might have the sophistication to make greater inroads.morepork wrote:If its a coup it's a damning appraisal of the individuals who attempted it. It's a waste of time, money, and ether. Never in the field of human endeavour has so much been spunked by so many for so little reward. The democratic process, as flawed as it is, has resisted the most significant challenge it has ever had and the incompetence of that challenge has highlighted systemic flaws that are there for the correcting. The limp cock of white privilege has been slapped by the cold hand of the attending nurse of public service and shrivelled into the diseased flab of a world view at least 100 years beyond it's shelf life. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
Today is a good day.

Tump has gone past $250 million raised to fight the election theft ongoing, and most of that is money Trump is able to draw on going forward with some huge payments to himself and close friends and family to undertake work on behalf of Trump related to anything they pretty much choose. And all he needs to sacrifice is some dignity and democracy.

Re: Trump
The Republican Party needs to disown these clowns. Let them form a third party and have a go but for the good of a democracy that people can respect, it needs candidate who commit to it not incite violence when they lose. The Republicans have allowed them to become mainstream which is very dangerous.Digby wrote:Tump has gone past $250 million raised to fight the election theft ongoing, and most of that is money Trump is able to draw on going forward with some huge payments to himself and close friends and family to undertake work on behalf of Trump related to anything they pretty much choose. Re: Trump
Inciting violence and a manufactured cultural war is too useful to the party to disown it. This election has shown that around 50% of the voting public are happy with that. A fair chunk of that 50% will be people grifting off of corporate welfare and happy to use the motivating white rage of the remainder to promote a good turn out. This way they get tax cuts, religious fanatics in the judicial system that get even more bleached cultural warriors to the voting booth.
Trump's handling of the coronavirus is what undid him (just), but the worse thing has been the active dismissal of legitimate grievance of those people that have suffered lifetimes of institutionalized social inequality and using that to paint the American aryan nation in a shade of blinding white standing against the tide of diversity threatening to swamp a revisionist version of the American dream that would make even Walt Disney vomit. This is what the current GOP stands for. Trump is an idiot that they were happy to let loose on a public health emergency because they don't give a fuck about the rank and file, but he is also a valuable tool for keeping the foul racist hordes of intellectually and morally challenged angry white cosplay god and gun nuts suitably motivated online and at the polls. The politicisation of a public health emergency was dovetailed into the culture war in a way that very nearly worked. That is fucking frightening.

And this should have been a case Trump was happy to jump up and down about. The FBI seemingly massively went above and beyond anything close to reasonable and then lied about it.paddy no 11 wrote:

I’m ever so slightly hopeful that when people discover that Biden is not remotely socialist, and that their lifestyle isn’t threatened, in fact possibly improves, they might start to see Trumpism for what it was. They might just stop thinking of him as one of them.morepork wrote:Inciting violence and a manufactured cultural war is too useful to the party to disown it. "People have asked if I am disappointed about the election. When I think about my answer, I have to say honestly, that I am grateful — grateful to God that for the last four years He gave us a president who protected our religious liberties; grateful for a president who defended the lives of the unborn, standing publicly against abortion and the bloody smear it has made on our nation; grateful for a president who nominated conservative judges to the Supreme Court and to our federal court,"
Franklin Graham - Evangelist (whatever that is) and president of christian organisation "Samaritan's Purse" ( a euphamism?)
How much fetid cock would you suck and society would you sodomise to remain tax free, fleece the sheep, and fuck the pool boy on a private estate?

It was so much easier to blame Them. It was bleakly depressing to think They were Us. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Trump Plaza in Atlantic City is crumbling, literally, but next January it's getting blow up/demolished, and if you've got $50k or more to spare you might care to bid in the auction to be the one to push the button.
If Trump had a sense of humour he might care to be the successful bidder, but there's a decent chance not only doesn't he have a sense of humour he also doesn't have $50k not already allocated

Re: Trump
Mostly this fat fuck is pure comedy. His cheesy thumbs up photo face, his earnest little fist pumps in inappropriate contexts, his adorable jutting jaw cartoon Mussolini poses. He doesn't have a direct hand in anything that requires attention and knowledge. The rest of the world can have a good old laugh at silly yanks flailing around under this muppet's charge. However, there are a few things that he has had a direct hand in, guided by more competently nefarious individuals no doubt, but a direct hand in all the same, that the rest of the world should be making clear should not stand. This includes the savage separation of children from migrants and assylum seekers and the loss of any means to reunite them, selling the Saudis billions in munitions that they then lob on unsuspecting Yemenis, the flat refusal to acknowledge systemic racial injustice and the demonisation of civil rights activists (cops shooting black people is not cool or clever), and now we can add pardoning war criminals to the list. Wiping the slate clean for those private militia jebus-bothering Blackwater fanatics is fucking inexcusable. Is this the shining beacon of democracy at work? If so, you can stick it up your arse and light it.

Although things are sounding much better with the honest update that the number of deaths have been exaggerated. Sad that people stooped to faking their own deaths to make Trump look bad, and in staying buried or cremated they're taking the joke too far at this point, but still, good news in the round.

If you're a Republican - say that you're pro-choice, or actually enact gun control.
If you're a Democrat - make a joke in bad taste.

this is a serious problem. if the Supremes don't want to touch it, and they might not, citing it's a political problem and the Senate could impeach thus it's not for them then the executive can get much worse than Trump and just pardon itself

Re: Trump
I've been assuming the 'we won the election' nonsense is merely a grift to bulk out the donations to Trump into hundreds of millions of dollars. But listening to those tapes of him and those officials in Georgia I'd almost be saying kudos for staying in character to such an extent, surely he can't actually believe his own claims.
Though one more, if he managed to actually 'win' the elections and assumed the next term in office will he then return the hundreds of millions of dollar to fight for that aim?

There have to be consequences here. Fat Orange Jebus and his 12 angry men cannot be allowed to fuck everyone over just so they can use social media to generate income and con frothy pig-fucking ignorant voters (admittedly a lot) in order they be allowed to keep feeding at the corporate trough.
