Nakarawa leaving to Ulster for a year. The signing was too good an opportunity to turn down but hasn't really worked out as dreamed.

Also, I hadn't appreciated this as the Pro14 seems a bit pointless this year but the fixture list they just released is bizarrely skewed. Both our teams will have one less game against the Italians than their conference rivals and there are a bunch of other oddities.
The aim over time really has to be to get rid of the conference system or keep it but get rid of cross conference games.

Simplest solution is to have 4 conferences of 4. Irish, Welsh, SA and Scots/Italians. Home and Away within conference = 6 matches. Once against every other team = 12 matches (home one year, away the next). Top 2 from each conference play 1/4 - 1/2 and Final with the losers in each case playing for final placings, bottom 4 play the same to give final overall placings and Euro qualification. = 21 game season where there is always something to play for. Keeps the "local" rivalries and means the 1872 is only over 2 games.

for next season, does it for me. But won't happen. Can you guess why not?Croft_No.5 wrote:Simplest solution is to have 4 conferences of 4. Irish, Welsh, SA and Scots/Italians. Cameo's point about this season is spot on. Another Pro14 farce

As much as the Pro14 gets stick, I can see it being well-placed if the nfl-style model takes off. You could add a couple of North American conferences soon enough if they keep pumping money into it over there.

fantasy nonsense corporal, fantasy nonsense. Berghan allegedly moving down the M8 for next season. Slightly weird one, will be #2 to Zander, so you would have thought he'd get more meaningful game time staying put (if that was an option).
Also suggests that they don't think D'Arcy Rae will make the grade
Does that not leave edinburgh quite light on tight heads? Unless they've got a signing in the pipeline.

Deal is signed. Zander openly said the other week he isn't intending to be a one club man. That might give a hint about why this deal has been made, or maybe not!Ally wrote:Berghan allegedly moving down the M8 for next season. That would explain it! Is Zanders contract up at end of next season?Big D wrote:Deal is signed. Zander openly said the other week he isn't intending to be a one club man. End of next season I think so barring a transfer fee being paid he'll be there for 1 more season.Ally wrote:That would explain it! Yeah probably can’t argue with Fagerson taking this opportunity when he’s now looking like a proper international tight head.
I just hope it’s somewhere he will be well managed. Still feels like he’s played a crazy amount for his age.

Cue incoming SA prop in 3, 2, 1.Ally wrote:Berghan allegedly moving down the M8 for next season. Slightly weird one, will be #2 to Zander, so you would have thought he'd get more meaningful game time staying put (if that was an option).

Nel is around next year, but I think that Alifato was only a one year deal (and I've seen nothing to say it should be for longer). Gamble is meant to have some promise he he's still young (19?). McCallum on the other hand needs to be playing now as he's 24. Maybe the coaches finally think that he's ready, in the way that Turner had to wait an age to get his chance?

McCallum has been spectacularly mismanaged between LH and TH

McCallum is already a full international, must be 2 to 3 years ago. He was ready. Dominant at TH, good round the park, even talk he would push Fagerson. Then moved to LH. Then TH. Then LH then who the fuck knows. He isn't the problem.switchskier wrote: McCallum on the other hand needs to be playing now as he's 24. Turner was deemed not good enough at Edinburgh. Moved to Glasgow and been in the squad pretty much ever since. Released by Edinburgh 2018. Cockerill was coach

Surprised this hasn't been posted yet. Looks like a good signing for Glasgow in an area of weakness for them. I'm guessing a year in the northern hemisphere getting a payday is looking pretty good with the ARU paycuts.

I completely missed that. Dempsey is a big signing and will add a bit more power to that backrow. It must be a long time (if ever) since Glasgow signed a current international from one of the old tri nations countries.

Hastings back! Actually quite a strong looking team v Ulster.
McLean and Dobie get another start and R Thompson and Ollie Smith bench.
Huw Jones at FB again.
