Australian immigration refuses Quade Cooper
I mean, I'm not his biggest fan, but it still seems a little mean to claim he's not engaged in activities of benefit to Australia. Although a reasonable query could be made as to why he didn't claim for citizenship way before now. Would he lose his NZ passport by doing so?

Nah. He can keep both. Kiwis in Oz often live in ignorance of how informal residency is there and how quickly they can be booted out or have any benefits (VISAs, health, unemployment, retirement) whipped out from under them with no notice. I'd say Quade doesn't want to be unexpectedly compromised further down the track.

From reading up, it appears he was sparked into it by being refused selection for the 2016 Olympics because he didn't have an Australian passport and has been working at the bureaucracy ever since (probably not helped by him playing in Japan).
