Can we change the title of this to "The Former Guy"?

Re: Trump
W O W. That's a hell of a defence - "I have become such a national joke that no-one should've taken me seriously."
ETA - Found a better link not behind a paywall and the detail just makes it even better.
"Indeed, Plaintiffs [from the statements by Dominion when she filed the lawsuits on behalf of Trump] themselves characterize the statements at issue as 'wild accusations' and 'outlandish claims.' They are repeatedly labelled 'inherently improbable' and even 'impossible.' Such characterizations of the allegedly defamatory statements further support Defendants' position that reasonable people would not accept such statements as fact but view them only as claims that await testing by the courts through the adversary process."
So her argument is that her unfounded accusations weren't defamation, because the company said it was bullshit at the time, and therefore it should've been obvious that she was talking nonsense. That is either a genius legal strategy that is outfoxing me or it's the biggest load of bollocks I've ever heard of.

Re: Trump
Worth noting of course whilst they pollute the system with this garbage they continue to drag the GOP to the lunatic asylum, see attempts to replace Raffensperger with Hice in Georgia, or with trying to put abortion back before the supremes, and having promoted so many conservatives to the supremes if the conservatives can agree on how to be conservative there's a massive shift in the law coming. And of course having taken local control in so many instances they continue to push the agenda that people being allowed to vote isn't reasonable.

Beware those with a gag reflex.

“the most extraordinary political movement in history”
"defeated the Washington establishment".
“overcame virtually every entrenched power structure”
“When the coronavirus plague arrived from China, afflicting every nation around the globe, President Trump acted early and decisively.”
“the office of Donald J Trump is committed to preserving the magnificent legacy of the Trump administration, while at the same time advancing the America first agenda”

Re: Trump
Trump phoned into Fox News the other day to claim (amongst the usual trash) that he basically invented the vaccine and that there wouldn't've have been one for 5 years if it hadn't been for him. Leaving aside that that is utter codswallop (the Trump administration did do a pretty good job on vaccine funding, but that was despite the man himself, and Pfizer didn't even use US funding), it is possibly the most useful thing Trump has ever done.
The Venn diagrams of "Covid is conspiracy to get microchips into my veins" and "Donald Trump won the election" is a single circle and he is probably the only person who could possibly reach them. If he can change their perspective from "Government control vaccine" to "Trump made a vaccine that saves America" (especially if he can somehow work in some theory that the libs don't want Republicans vaccinated, so getting it is owning the libs), then it might possibly justify his existence as a human being.
And, let's face it, he's gonna continue believing that he personally invented the vaccine, no matter what anyone else says, so we may as well benefit from this delusion.

Ah well. At least all of America’s other problems are fixed now that he’s out of office.

There is a lot that the Dems are doing that's proving popular, and Biden is proving popular too. Granted he's been handing out money and dodging hard decisions, but maybe at some point with the Trump candidates also doing badly the opposition return to planet earth, rather than investing their time and money into stirring conspiracy theories and culture wars with little to no basis in reality

I’d like that to be true but I fear that’s wishful thinking. This Republican surrender to populism has a long way to go yet.Digby wrote:There is a lot that the Dems are doing that's proving popular, and Biden is proving popular too. Re: Trump
The populism garbage is working for those running the play, they're making big money and getting big prestige, but it's a horrible election strategy other than it almost locks them into a whining loser status which is seemingly what they wantSandydragon wrote:I’d like that to be true but I fear that’s wishful thinking. Bu fret not the 'left' can pull it out of the bag yet. For instance at almost no point in my lifetime have Labour in the UK or the Dems in he USA had a near lock on first dibs getting college educated middle class women to vote for them because those groups have tended to go family first, protect the family, centre right conservative. And faced with this chance to secure a huge voting bloc they left has moved quickly to tell mothers they're parents not mothers, they chestfeed not breastfeed. Frankly it's like they don't want to win

If there is one thing that’s very likely, the Lib Dem’s will fail to take advantage of any opportunity to be relevant and will waste time in protest politics.

Re: Trump
Trump btw is coming back into power today, the MyPillow Guy said so. Mind the cyber expert the MyPillow Guy hired has said the 'irrefutable evidence' held by Mike Lindell contains no actual evidence China hacked anything during the election to assist Biden, and more amusing still the data held by Trump and Co. on which most of these assertions have been made was purchased by team orange from a con man called Dennis Montgomery (Montgomery is somewhat famous actually - https://www.pbs.org/newshour/nation/ren ... an-history)
And despite what Lindell has said about the return of Trump, today, it's not happened yet, though a judge has ruled the defamation lawsuits against Rudy, Sydney Powell and Lindell can proceed, which is nice. Oddly Trump is making no effort to support the legal fees of the 3, whether directly or suggesting it in his fundraising
