I don't know what's more tragic. The death itself as it pertains to the affect it will have on all those close to him, or the increasing frequency of such acts that highlight our society as broken, country divided, and our democracy in decay.

Questions remain regarding the motive, and we ought to demand answers as to what exactly the PM will do to heal this country of its ever deepening rifts.

Utterly tragic for the victim and his family, and for our wider democracy. I would not want our elected representatives to be isolated from their constituents but clearly they are a target for extremists. In this case I’m not even aware of any individual reason why he should have been at greater risk, it could just be that he was the most available target for someone with a grudge against Britain as a whole.

Hopefully this government won’t overreact, but anything is possible.
