Re: Queenie
I'm surprised that Rugby Rebels hasn't put out a formal statement confirming how deeply the site feels grief for the loss of our great Queen, and that it hasn't changed its colour scheme to the most sombre black.

I still, somehow, just can’t get my head around the fact anybody cares at all. What a ridiculous existence.

Re: Queenie
The site should shut for 10 working days out of respect.
Apparently this is what's happening to government - work can go on behind the scenes, but nothing can be published. And no new ministers can be installed, even though not all the junior posts have been filled. Fair enough, it's not like there's anything important to be done.

Considering who's in charge, it's probably for the best.

Re: Queenie
It is factual but there is, depressingly, a reasonable reason behind it. The bike rack's in front of the railings of the town hall where floral tributes to the Queen are being displayed.Which Tyler wrote:99.5% certain it is.Zhivago wrote:please tell me that is satirePuja wrote:FB_IMG_1662920488003.jpg

Re: Queenie
Seeing several stories of people being arrested for expressing republican views.
Who'd have though that the law explicitly brought in to prevent peaceful protest is being used to prevent peaceful protest.
There is no place for that in this country (though I'm mostly taking their word for it that they were peaceful - if tactless). They'll probably be told that they're snowflakes and should get over it though.
ETA: Oh no, sorry, they're being told that asking who voted for Charles could directly lead to regicide...

Being a republican in Britain used to be perfectly respectable. So why are people now getting arrested for it?
Over the years, the conversation has been steadily closed down so that you can no longer voice anything but adoration.
A woman in Edinburgh was arrested at the weekend for holding a sign that said: “Fuck imperialism, abolish monarchy.” In Oxford, an even milder protest resulted in the arrest of Symon Hill. He emerged from church as the proclamation for King Charles III was being read, and called out: “Who elected him?” There is a question mark over how disruptive that was, in the great scheme of things, but it was enough for the police to arrest and handcuff him, later to de-arrest him on the understanding that he would be questioned in the future. Hill says that, at the time, they told him they were acting under the new Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act (2022), though they later described it as a potential public order offence.

Re: Queenie
Do I agree that that lady was led away by the police? Yes, yes I do.
I wouldn't have thought it was something that needed agreement or disagreement though.
FTR, I also believe in freedom of speech and peaceful protest - I didn't think that was particularly contentious, but feel free to disagree, I suppose.

Re: Queenie
Nope. That U.K. = Russia. I’d assumed that was obvious given the JHB tweet I posted.
My defence of freedom of speech has been staunch on here and doesn’t waver on whether I agree with whatever someone is saying.

Re: Queenie
A. It's not my tweet - I dont even have a twitter account.
B. I don't judge my opinion based on what JHB"s opinion is.
C. I think people being arrested for peaceful protest / expressing their political opinions is a very bad sign for health of our democracy.
I'd have thought all of that (bar me not being on twitter) was pretty obvious.
Either way, if you want an internet fight, you'll just have to look somewhere else.

Re: Queenie
You posted a tweet that said that the U.K. = Russia. To then use a weak defence of ‘it’s not my tweet’ is tissue paper thin. Im not challenging that people should have the right of peaceful protest - I have already stated my challenge isn’t about that but keep on with that strawman if you like.
Apologies for entering the echo chamber for an ‘internet fight’, I didn’t realise people should be able post anything they wanted without being challenged.

Must have missed the UK = Russia bit, did see the tweet where the guy said he was reminded about the protester arrested in Moscow.
Sick of hearing about Liz, nothing against her as a person, never met her, but the adulation over here has been gag worthy. People being rolled out to confirm her greatness with anecdotes like the time she had a G&T at lunch, wow, what a woman. The premier of Ontatio, Doug Fwit Ford, coming out with a god save the king. Justin T. shedding crocodile tears for one of his favorite people in the world. Enuff already.

That's what the tweet said. I can see the parallels without extrapolating it to mean Range Rovers are Ladas.

In Zid have announced a one-off public holiday for it. Too much man. There have even been proclamations of support for the new jug-eared king of social welfare beneficiaries. It's a leetle cringeworthy. Welcome to NA. Please set your watches back 50 years.

If you think the policing of free speech in the U.K. and Russia is even close to being worthy of comparison then the hyperbole train has one more passenger.J Dory wrote:"Cant help thinking back to this"
