Leigh Halfpenny?
Johnny McNicholl?
Gareth Anscombe?
Josh Adams?
Anyone else catching the eye?

I would have said Jonah Holmes, but not now, Halfpenny has been out a long time, so probably not ready for the AIs. McNicholl scares the hall out of me at 15. Maybe Anscombe, not the most defensively solid but it brings a second play maker into the mix. Adams otherwise.

The coach has called upon Cardiff to play Adams at FB, so that looks like a done deal.

Saw that. Could be looking at how to use Adams as emergency FB for the RWC. Kind of suggests to me that they aren't thinking of taking 2 specialists in Halfpenny and Williams (which may be prudent as Halfpenny has been out for a while).

McNicholl for me. Agreed that Holmes should have been in the frame for this. Anscombe can certainly do it but he should be 10.

What has happened to Holmes anyway? He was the future once upon a time.Son of Mathonwy wrote: ↑Fri Sep 23, 2022 7:30 pm McNicholl for me. Agreed that Holmes should have been in the frame for this. Anscombe can certainly do it but he should be 10.

Gone to England, and less than 60 caps.

And very much second tier rugby. Utter waste.

The cupboard looks scarily bare at 15. Good time for Angus O'Brien to get a MOTM? I'm only half-joking...
There are a couple of names in the mix but no-one with any experience. If McNicholl is the answer, I've misunderstood the question. Nicholas and Nagy aren't anywhere near ready, Matthew Morgan was ready 10 years ago but it's far too late now. Protheroe isn't a full-back at all. Neither is Collins IMO - is he Welsh-qualified yet?

McNicholl is fine if we want to win with a lot of tries but only against poor opposition. I don’t rate him against good teams.

One of those mysteries, like information lost in a black hole and the disappearance of the Wales careers of Webb, Hibbard and Richie Rees.UKHamlet wrote: ↑Sat Sep 24, 2022 2:22 pmWhat has happened to Holmes anyway? Let's not forget Patchell. If he can't get a sniff of 10, then he is an option.

I remember Priestland filling in it fullback for the Scarlets years ago and being a bit of a revelation, I suspect he doesn't have the wheels for the job any more tho, maybe Halfpenny will be back by then but it would be a bit of a leap from no rugby to International level after such a long lay off.
I'm pretty sure they'll go with Adams as we have more depth at wing to fill the gaps, maybe Ashton Hewitt will finally be given a go, I think he's a great player.

My money is on Adams. I just can't see Halfpenny being selected so soon after such a long layoff.

Without wishing to curse him, based on the last game and a half then Angus Obrien must be on consideration
