Jones gone (Now 100% confirmed)
Am hearing that he’s being sacked on Monday. All payoffs being sorted and due to part companies.
Usually a very reliable source. Maybe my hope playing in too! We’ll see in 24/36 hours

Would be stunned (but pleasantly surprised) if true.
Fingers crossed

Fingers crossed that you are right. Tell me it's not 1 April . . .

Re: Jones gone
Nothing to offer in his defence. Given his heritage, one might have thought the honourable choice would have been to resign and save face (I don’t mean actual seppuku).
My only worry is what it might mean in terms of an immediate successor. Can we get someone we want now or are we stuck with someone like Cockerill in charge until after the RWC?

Re: Jones gone
The RFU have invested a lot of faith in Jones and i thought they'd stick with him through to the WC.
There was something out of kilter in our game yesterday, even more than what we've seen this year. The players just didnt look focused and none of them advanced their cause much. Frustration was evident and they didnt seem remotely at ease with each other.
Maybe the players have had enough and that has been transmitted to the RFU board?

Well the RFU can’t be completely deaf to the boos ringing around Twickenham more often than not …
We know Eddie was already under some pressure post-6N. The Australia bought him a little bit of time, but the AIs have shown how poor we’ve become (plus additional context on Australia not being a particularly strong side). Perhaps hey recognise it’s finally time to act.

Welcome news indeed.
When you pick a 23 out of yesterday’s game and only Sinkler makes it from England by default then something has to change

Sinckler? If you’re picking one, that’s an odd choice.
Stuart has pushed him pretty hard and his performances in Australia were better than anything Sinckler has delivered in a long while.

Stuart/Sinks. Either one. Only because Du Toit was carded

Re: Jones gone
Performance wise, we're <50% win ratio for 2 years on the trot (uniquely for England since 1984/5*); but that'd be a pretty weird clause to have in there.
Richard Cockerill
Wayne Smith
Michael Cheika
Warren Gatland
I've become #EddieOut over this AI window, but I do agree with much of what squidge said in that video on the NZ match, and I do see enough in there to justify keeping him on. Even more so if what I've heard elsewhere** is true, and planned, and approved by RFU (and passed an ethics committee).
I'm also getting flashbacks to the Autumn of 2006 - though in reality that was way, WAY worse.
* Robinson managed 50% & 27% consecutively (bookended with a huge 53%); Johnson managed 50% & 45%.
**"there's stories coming out now about sleep deprivation and all sorts...ie making players make decisions when absolutely shattered etc...sounds horrific"
Options available right now:
Richard Cockerill
Wayne Smith
Michael Cheika
Warren Gatland

Is the *elsewhere behind a pay wall? Come on. Spill.
Also is Cheika available? Not that I especially want him but hadn’t he already got 2 teams on his hands?

Re: Jones gone
He's got a contract until 2024 but has a get out if he doesn't get the AB job post world cup. I don't know if the deal is between him and the Crusaders or between him and the NZRU. If it's the NZRU there might be a deal to be done where he takes us to the world cup but has the option to join the All Blacks immediately after the world cup it they part with Foster. A time restricted release clause.

Re: Jones gone
Jones really should go. His philosophy, selections, and tactics have failed and England look a poor team without direction.
In some ways it does not matter much who gets the job. Any half decent coach, even in a temporary caretaker role, would have to be an improvement and provide a psychological boost to the whole sad setup.

Re: Jones gone
Time to roll out my England Sports Coach Cycle of Doom theory again.
1) Previous coach has been fired for poor results, stemming from picking favoured players even if they're unfit, out of form or shoe horned into the wrong position.
2) Immediately refresh things and improve performances by picking fit, in form players in their actual positions.
3) A core of a team is developed and a style introduced, results continue to be acceptable to good.
4) "loyalty to the group" starts to replace initial commitment to picking the fit and in form. Results start to drop off.
5) Bloody mindedness kicks in, a "siege mentality" is introduced, with cap counts of world cup winning teams suddenly becoming an important talking point.
6) Poor 6Ns followed by a terrible autumn / world cup.
7) Rinse and repeat.

Re: Jones gone
Did anyone else pickup on the pre match interview yesterday when Warren Gatland was asked by Sara Elgin if he had received any phone calls from Twickenham last week and he said no but he did it with a smirk. I wonder if someone has tapped him up. I suspect the Welsh are just as interested in him as well.

I can confirm or deny nothing.
I have, however, changed the thread title, because it was screwing with my brain too!
