Euro Challenge Cup 22/23

Post by jimKRFC »

Don't think this comp deserves a separate match thread for every game but perhaps a summary?

USAP 5 - 19 Bristol; A scoreless second half but a good return to play for Fitz Harding, Ibitoye supposedly played well and (more importantly for Bristol) Joe Jenkins (academy 12) played well on his first start getting a try, an assist and putting in some big tackles.

Odd, arcane little rule to fall foul of - though I can see the point of the rule (no ringers), I also can't really blame an administrator for screwing up on it - or the authorities for enforcing it once they'd noticed.

Typical Bristol admin stupidity.... the annoying thing was there was no need to take on Stooke. We had two locks (Hawkins and Eames) available and academy players available. It'll not cost a ton of money though the fine & the lost home fixtures....

I do wonder if Leicester are at risk of this with Oghre as well.

Shit. That's a very good point.

ETA. A quick bit of research says that Oghre did not play in either of the Clermont games, but did play for about 5 minutes off the bench against Ospreys. So in theory, yes we should really lose the points for that game. Balls!

ETETA. It looks like the main issue was Bristol registering Stooke in the category of "Additional player" and him then leaving his contract early. I know Oghre stayed until the end of his short term contract, rather than leaving early, so they always knew he was only going to be here for a month, but I've obviously got no idea how he was registered. Soooo hopefully okay? Who knows. Hoping Leicester's paperwork department weren't caught out too.
