Can you believe it?

Post by Donny osmond »

From the dept of the bleedin obvious, Murdoch admits what we've all known for years, he's a feckin liar....

https://www.theguardian.com/media/2023/ ... dApp_Other
In his 71 years as a media executive, Rupert Murdoch has proved himself to be a grand master in the arts of survival. He has weathered bruising battles with British trade unions, the phone hacking scandal, countless ratings wars and a volatile private life, all the while growing his News Corp empire into global colossus.

It was against this seven-decade backdrop of seeming invincibility that news of Murdoch’s deposition in the $1.6bn Dominion Voting Systems lawsuit against Fox News Networks and its parent company Fox Corp dropped like a bomb. Not only did he admit that he knew that Fox News hosts spread lies about the 2020 presidential election being stolen from Donald Trump, but he confessed that he had allowed them to keep on doing so on air to millions of viewers.
It was so much easier to blame Them. It was bleakly depressing to think They were Us. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

The commentary around it suggesting that Fox will lose viewers who are angry at being hoodwinked is laughable. Fox viewers get their news from Fox, who aren't going to publicise that they lied about the election, or from further right sources, who aren't going to publicise that the election lie exists. On the off chance they do hear about it, they'll just dismiss it as another mainstream media conspiracy to smear the good honest, Trump-fearing folks at Fox. Hells, they'll probably gain viewership from it.

And we're seeing this article in the Guardian, not the Sun.

All fair points. Shines a pretty horrible light on modern times, that someone can do openly admit to not just manipulating the news people see but actively being dishonest, and the only expectation is that they will somehow be rewarded.

How to make money of racist yanks:

1. Preach MURRICA in every sentence (NB: very light on details).
2. Make every second news article about "wokeism".
3. Rake that shit in.

You have to wonder what kind of morality or set of values Murdoch (and the Fox News presenters) must have in order to sleep at night. Pure psychopath? 100% capitalist? Win no matter what? Values are for snowflakes?

I doubt he has that much of a conscience. He is enormously successful because he has given people the sort of news they think they want and as a result is now a very powerful man. People get used to being in that position and wish to maintain it.

Agreed, I'm sure he has negligible conscience compared to the average person but how does he justify it to himself? Or does he simply never reflect on it?

I know this a bit irrelevant and this guy is never going to change. Even this sort-of admission is just a set of words he thought would be best to get through the current situation with the least damage to his business - it may well be yet another collection of lies with no correlation to his mental processes. But maybe some understanding of what makes essentially evil* people tick would be helpful for the world.

If we can understand where this type comes from maybe we can recognise them earlier in life and/or change situations where dangerous minds like that might be formed. As it is this guy is probably held up as a paragon (at least in the US), someone to learn from and emulate. And not despised for the cunt** he is.

* I generally try to avoid this kind of label but it's pretty justified in this case.
** No qualms about this one.

I suspect every time he counts his billions he reminds himself how smart he is.
