So that's the end of Nicola Sturgeon. After 8 years as First Minister she is resigning. Her resignation speech had shades of Ahern in suggesting that she simply had reached a point where she didn't have the energy to continue.

Will this help or hamper the cause of Scottish independence? Lots of people I know north of the border argue that the SNP has had a very easy ride from the media who have not made a huge deal of its patchy performance in government. Yet Sturgeon seems to have been one of those politicians who is able to remain riding high regardless.Is there a natural successor?

I wasn't aware that her husband was under investigation, thanks for that. I'm always sceptical when a political decides to resign, whether they have genuinely run out of gas or whether they have 'read the runes' and realised their support base is dwindling and its best to get ahead of the inevitable rather than cling on for another 12 months and have the shame of being ousted.

Opinion polls & approval ratings on the slide, Supreme Court, Section 35, Ferries, A9..list goes on; she sees it would be a long painful slog ahead with uncertain returns unlike more attractive opportunities lying ahead on the global stage (maybe).
Forbes, Brown, McAllan ?...not exactly Phil Collins following Peter Gabriel ( a Jeremy Vine line.).but who knows.
The core SNP following will be there, but always a risk of damaging splintering and infighting after a departure like this.
A few messy looking investigations thrown in - will be a tough challenge for sure.

Very clever at presentation- making people look one way, whilst all sorts of shyte was going on over there....Boris like, in fact. I laughed when I read her plea for dropping down hysteria and irrationality, when her whole schtick was based on emotion and rhetoric.

It turns out the auditors looking at SNP finances resigned last October and the leadership at the time kept it a secret from EVERYONE ELSE and no one knew a thing, honest, until this week when suddenly everyone knew. The SNP have had such problems appointing new auditors that they've had to inform the electoral commission that they probably won't be able to submit their account before the cut off in July.

People from outside Scotland need to take a look at the unholy shitshow that she's left behind and wonder just how good of a politician she actually was.
