Jersey didn’t put their ground forward for approval.francoisfou wrote: ↑Sat Apr 15, 2023 8:31 am As Ealing’s ground is considered to be unworthy for Premiership rugby, I wonder if Jersey Reds’ ground is? If Ealing win today against the mighty Blues then their home match with Ealing next week is significant.

Going well by all accounts - one of the better quality Saints loanees we’ve had.

I should add that Farrell’s appearances for Bedford is between 0 - 3, inclusive. Rayer sent him back to Sarries as his passing wasn’t good enough…

Jersey beat Ealing to go top of the table. They have Ampthill at home next weekend to secure first place and promo… whoops, silly me.

Now Jersey I'd love to have in the Prem.

Bet some of their local tax dodgers would provide some sponsorship to help them stay there as well.

Amusing result considering how Ealing have been agitating about it's not fair that they specifically are being discriminated against over promotion and generally acting like 1st place is theirs by right.

Well overdue. No idea why it took so long to implement this as it seems a real no brainer. Championship clubs get a bit more profile, and it should revive a little interest in the competition.

Re: Championship Rugby
It’ll be interesting to see how it’ll work with loaned players. Bedford vs Northampton and LS vs Quins being the most obvious examples where there are a lot of players on loan from Prem to Champ club.

I assume in most cases those players would probably play for their parent team, as they would usually be in an around the Prem Cup squads. We'll see though. Would be good to have a few nice local derbies and hopefully the draw/seeding makes that happen.

Re: Championship Rugby
As it's going to run during the world cup I suspect most of the Prem teams will use it as an extended pre season. Look to win home games and send the development squad to away games. Not sure how many loan signings will be turning out for the Championship clubs, might depend on how many call ups their Prem sponsor has to contend with.
Should be fun.

Some clubs will struggle to field competitive sides if they can’t use their Prem players. Bedford had to beg and borrow 2 or 3 players at least a couple of times this season when Saints needed their loanees back.
I’m guessing the extra revenues this comp should bring in will help bolster Champ clubs’ squads so they’re not so reliant on Prem players. Insert fingers crossed emoji.

Its a bit late to recruit tbh- esp for sides potentially not promoted yetMellsblue wrote: ↑Mon Apr 24, 2023 5:16 pm Some clubs will struggle to field competitive sides if they can’t use their Prem players. Not like there's a shortage of available players though.Banquo wrote: ↑Mon Apr 24, 2023 5:22 pmIts a bit late to recruit tbh- esp for sides potentially not promoted yetMellsblue wrote: ↑Mon Apr 24, 2023 5:16 pm Some clubs will struggle to field competitive sides if they can’t use their Prem players. I'm sure Wasps are counting on that.Puja wrote: ↑Mon Apr 24, 2023 6:08 pmNot like there's a shortage of available players though.Banquo wrote: ↑Mon Apr 24, 2023 5:22 pmIts a bit late to recruit tbh- esp for sides potentially not promoted yetMellsblue wrote: ↑Mon Apr 24, 2023 5:16 pm Some clubs will struggle to field competitive sides if they can’t use their Prem players. There's plenty of university teams that I'm sure will be looked at your economically viable squad additions.

.....affordable players? Not sure about that. Its a tricky process at semi-pro none pro level #justsaying, and future cash doesn't help that much when you have precious little and the summer approachingPuja wrote: ↑Mon Apr 24, 2023 6:08 pmNot like there's a shortage of available players though.Banquo wrote: ↑Mon Apr 24, 2023 5:22 pmIts a bit late to recruit tbh- esp for sides potentially not promoted yetMellsblue wrote: ↑Mon Apr 24, 2023 5:16 pm Some clubs will struggle to field competitive sides if they can’t use their Prem players. Re: Championship Rugby
I was thinking as I typed that, "Of course, that depends on the promised funding actually materialising." Not many players willing to get paid on the never-never, although there'll be a few that are more willing to take the meagre wages of Championship rugby now that it comes with a bonus 2-3 game audition in front of Prem coaches each season.
