Not an unrealistic scenario, albeit one that only works because Crossan seems to have reached the end of the road and there are no other bidders. Hazelwood is the prize really. It's a superb site and could support a bigger sporting organisation than LI pretty easily.

Re: Premiership financial issues
Sensible decision by the players/staff, given their choice was 50% or get fucked. I wonder what the RFU will do - their ultimatum has been called, but if they suspend them now, then it's them that are taking the action to swing the axe.

Players and staff asking for the extension according to the RFU statement. Makes sense form the player's perspective. Ensures they get their 50% for sitting tight for 6 days. The majority who won't be walking straight into deals elsewhere (and especially non playing staff) at least get one last roll of the dice of this takeover actually materialising and can be looking elsewhere at the same time anyway. Potential employers of the guys with offers on the table will likely wait for them.
I'd be stunned if any money actually materialises from across the pond by next week though.

Any backroom or admin staff left must love the club. If my employer was late paying my salary I'd be off on the job market seeing what else I could get. The first team players can probably last without their full monthly salary but most other people need their pay cheque at the end of the month.Margin_Walker wrote: ↑Wed May 31, 2023 8:56 pm Players and staff asking for the extension according to the RFU statement. I suppose if the offer from the club was 50% or naff all you'd take the 50% and intensity the negotiations to go elsewhere.

Trouble is, the number of jobs available (without emigrating) has just shrunk by 23% in the last 9 monthsFKAS wrote: ↑Thu Jun 01, 2023 8:29 amAny backroom or admin staff left must love the club. Nothing to do with love for the club. If I didn't get paid and was offered 50% of my salary (with a very slim chance of it all in 6 days) or 0% of my salary and no chance of it all, I'd take the former. In both scenarios you can spend the week job hunting.FKAS wrote: ↑Thu Jun 01, 2023 8:29 amAny backroom or admin staff left must love the club. I think it depends heavily on the industry and location. I still get multiple emails a week touting jobs and at least one recruiter a month trying to contact me directly. If you can work hybrid or remotely then there's obviously a lot more options. There was also a big surplus last year driven by Brexit and the end of the Covid period so a reduction this year with inflation through the roof is somewhat expected.Which Tyler wrote: ↑Thu Jun 01, 2023 9:41 amTrouble is, the number of jobs available (without emigrating) has just shrunk by 23% in the last 9 monthsFKAS wrote: ↑Thu Jun 01, 2023 8:29 amAny backroom or admin staff left must love the club. That’s wt’s entire point. The Prem has lost 23% of its teams, so far…FKAS wrote: ↑Thu Jun 01, 2023 10:05 amI think it depends heavily on the industry and location. There’s not many opportunities for rugby players, coaches etc etc especially if they want to work remotely.

Then I have to presume that you don't work in English professional rugbyFKAS wrote: ↑Thu Jun 01, 2023 10:05 amI think it depends heavily on the industry and location. I was talking about the backroom staff; advertising, finance, IT etc positions are generally transferrable across industries.
The players are an entirely different story.

Ralph Rimmer former RFL CEO… Talk about kicking a sport whilst it’s down. He sounds like a smeg head.

Rimmer's an odd choice. Not highly regarded in league. Someone with NRL or NFL experience might have been a better option.
That aside, if Govt intervention causes those charged with running the game to really get a grip then it may be no bad thing.
Things look terminal for Irish.

Have we worked out which independent advisor is employed via Mrs Sunak yet or is the contract on offer not worth it for her?Mellsblue wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2023 6:01 pm Independent advisers appointed by government to help stabilise future of professional rugby union:

{Mod} This is correct. Amusing quip, but no politics on the EMB please, as we don't want the arguments. {/Mod}

The only context I have for him is knowing rugby league fans who utterly despise him and claim he was running the game into the ground. I don't know how true that was, but it's not comforting.fivepointer wrote: ↑Sat Jun 03, 2023 7:44 am Rimmer's an odd choice. Not highly regarded in league. Frankly, I don't see what value government advisers are planning to add here. The make-or-break is surely going to be around this relaunch of the pro game that PRL are planning in 2024-25, run by that bloke who marketed the Hundred in cricket. I don't see what Rimmer and Pilling are going to say apart from, "Yeah. Do that thing that you were already planning to do, and do it well."

What happens to the stock that irish, wasps and worcester had as original founders of the prem? Does it get absorbed in the liquidation?

Re: Premiership financial issues
I can't comment knowledgeably on the background to the LI demise. Inevitably, I suspect incompetence at best and corruption at worst. Whatever the ramifications I feel sorry for the players and staff thrown out of jobs.
Beyond that basic sympathy and having no special affection for the club (or for Wasps and Worcester, come to that), I'm left clinging to the hope that the RFU and the Prem Clubs grab a one-off chance to put the game on to a sound footing. The rescue from the ridiculous idea of a 14 man league should be seen as heaven-sent.
Simply by ending the club/country clashes there can be an improvement - an average of 6 or 7 journeymen foreigners no longer on the wage bill theoretically, perhaps?? There must be progress towards improving standards at all levels.
