I’d agree on Marchant, Steward and Willis off the bench, from a barely watching POV.

I suppose the question is when will the England coaching team give up?Banquo wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 9:51 pmLooks like I picked the wrong day to give up glue sniffingEpaminondas Pules wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 8:36 pm Looks like I picked the right day to be at the airport and miss the game![]()

Kinda. They did have 3 guys getting their first caps. Bench was pretty experienced though.pompey-zebra wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 9:17 pmWhereas Wales put their first xv out.fivepointer wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 7:49 pm D

Clearly that made the difference in dominating the second half.Buggaluggs wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 10:03 pmKinda. They did have 3 guys getting their first caps. Yes. An enthusiastic but fairly mediocre Wales beat a dismal England selection containing several players who just played themselves out of the RWC. A turgid game with low skill levels all round, and quite a boring spectacle.

The only positives I can take from that were no red cards and no injuries.
Depressing.

Maybe SB will realise one big error and send an SOS for Quirke or Mitchell. Better still, both.

Steward and Stuart get a pass too for my money - the former showed some good running skills and tackling to offset the cloghands he showed for his knock on, and the latter did well in the tight.

Given how we're playing I'm still amazed Gus Warr didn't at least make the training camp. The form 9 in the Prem last season, he's probably got his limitations but at only 23 he could still kick on again.
Quirke played second fiddle to Warr and probably needs a pre season given his injury issues.

Given how ineffective Sinckler was off the bench I'd be tempted to say that Stuart is probably the first choice tighthead now.Puja wrote: ↑Sun Aug 06, 2023 8:44 amSteward and Stuart get a pass too for my money - the former showed some good running skills and tackling to offset the cloghands he showed for his knock on, and the latter did well in the tight.

Steward brought some footwork, was good to see him go past the first chaser or two rather than just hoof the ball back.

That might be the worst I've seen England play, not sure how much is down to awful coaching and how much to poor play on the pitch. I can (almost) forgive the handling errors in the first half because at least they were trying to move the ball. The second half was abject though with absolutely no ambition and the set piece fell apart - begs the question of what exactly have they been doing for the last 3 months. Pathetic display from players who are meant to be playing for their world cup place (Marchant, Stewart and Ludlum aside)
Will need to be outstanding next week to bring the fans back onside I think

Already feels like it was just a bad dream.
Hopefully next Saturday will see a team closer to first choice, with some familiarity, and actual basic skills on display. Don't want to get too carried away and ask for a cogent game plan that goes beyond hoof it in the air for the big lads to chase

Yeah he had a little jaunt down the wing at one point and I thought it was a front rower until I saw the hair. He still seems to have a lot of energy but it’s hard to say how efficiently he uses it.
I’m struggling with what SB gets out of this game overall. Poor performance but it never looked like a team set up to succeed. A muddled assortment of fringe players, some of whom will have played themselves out of contention already, fighting to be the least bad option is not an inspiring way to whittle the squad down.
It’s really piled the pressure on when we put out something closer to a first team, but maybe that’s what they need?

We had a lot more attacking shape than we've seen in the last year. Two runners for the 9 to pick from and one in behind to link with the backs or act as support with our pods of 3. Smith got the ball in space with room to attack on several occasions.16th man wrote: ↑Sun Aug 06, 2023 10:29 am Already feels like it was just a bad dream.

It's not coherent enough yet but a step forward. Wales actually kicked the ball a lot more than we did.
Error count was just way to high. Can't turnover the ball 23 times in a test match, that's just ridiculous.

Perzackly and pretty predictable. Its a bit soul destroying when you are playing for your place and surrounded by varying degrees of incompetence and unpreparedness.Mikey Brown wrote: ↑Sun Aug 06, 2023 10:40 amYeah he had a little jaunt down the wing at one point and I thought it was a front rower until I saw the hair. Hooker is a major problem for us now. George really needs to be wrapped in cotton wool as no-one else we have seems to be up to standard. I know there has been a fair bit of excitement around Theo Dan, but he really shat the bed on his debut and Blamire wasn’t much better.
