How long a ban?
So, by my reckoning, it's tucked arm, shoulder to head, which is mid-range entry point of 6 weeks, IIRC. There can surely be no mitigation for clean record, but Farrell made sure to apologise to Basham on the pitch, so that's contrition, and I'm sure he'll eat biscuits nicely at the hearing, which could in theory lead up to 40% mitigation. I reckon a 3 or 4 week ban based on previous IRB disciplinary fuckery, although I personally would up it to 8 weeks entry for previous and only give 25% mitigation for his good manners after braining someone.

He'll get 3 or 4 weeks. For me, if you are a serial offender you should get the full penalty, even if you are not O Farrell..

Was always going to happen at some point. He’s got away with it previously and been sanctioned before and not learnt his lesson. At least England can plan to be without him (maybe).

I will happily take 6 weeks, because then Borthwick would have no choice but to drop him.

Re: How long a ban?
Even if it is 6wks, I reckon he’s still kept. By then England would hope to have qualified for the next round (even if it is in second place), which means he’s available for the knock outs and goes straight back in to the side …

Re: How long a ban?
Promising that he thinks 4-5 weeks compared to my 3-4 weeks (given he's forgotten more about this kind of stuff than I will ever know). That would put him out for at least Argentina and Japan and, while I've no doubt he'll be back in the XXIII immediately, it puts a dent in the case for him to be captain and starting 10 again if Lawes and Ford have done a good job for those.

Don't disagree, but it would be a bloody awful idea with strong 1978 Gordon McQueen vibes, and we all know how that turned out.

Do we? I don’t … something tells me McQueen was a Scottish footballer, but honestly, I’m struggling …

Re: How long a ban?
My bad. Gordon McQueen was a Scottish centre half who they took to the 1978 World Cup despite knowing he wouldn't be fit for the group, on the basis of "We're taking Big Gordy for the second round". He was fit by the time the second round came around, but Scotland were home by that stage, because they'd lost 3-1 to Peru and drawn 1-1 with Iran.

That was done with intent. His first reaction after he did that is to square up to Biggar. He shouldn't be captain. If he was a kid at school, there would be professionals all over those sort of behavioural red flags. He has issues and is always angry.

Yep. He became angry as we were getting our arses handed to us so, instead of trying to take control of the game as a flyhalf, he decided to get sent off.

Re: How long a ban?
Whilst I don't particularly want to defend Farrell, several Welsh players including Biggar and Williams came up to him with quite a bit of verbals. I think Biggar pushed Farrell first and Farrell unsurprisingly isn't impressed. Ford split them up. Wasn't particularly necessary so long after the event in my view. Was mainly Biggar and Liam Williams being angry and shouty as per usual.
Ban wise, let's set an example 6 months ok with everyone?

Re: How long a ban?
He just shoulder charged their team mate in the head. What did he expect? If he can't deal with the situation like a professional adult then he should fuck off. Aren't you just sick and tired of his constant angry panto villain persona? As captain no less.

Re: How long a ban?
We are all very, very tired of it, but Biggar did come over and shoved him about 4 minutes after he shouldercharged their team mate in the head. It wasn't like it was a spur of the moment, rush of blood, instant reaction thing.
I think you can see how tired we all are of it by the fact that the media is woe and betiding that Our Captain might miss the first two matches and we're sitting here asking whether it's possible that he could miss a few more. He shouldn't be anywhere near captaincy - I've yet to see any evidence that sides that he captains raise their game for him or that he can turn around a game when it starts to slide.

Re: How long a ban?
The problem is that Biggar, on the pitch, is as big a child as Farrell. The ideal outcome would’ve be for them to square up and simultaneously knock each other out. Good for the game and good for the lols
