Great player at his peak. Could so easily have just traded off being fast and had an average career, but he worked so hard on his all round game, all the way through and turned himself into the best version of himself. Outrageous that he never went with the Lions.

Yep, started as a crazy X factor player with his speed and unpredictability and ended up a very good allrounder who worked hugely on his defensive game especially.

All the more satisfying for being the sort of try we've had to watch their wingers score against us so many times.

On a side not, have ‘they’ won the the moral high ground and been crowned WC champions? ?

A true classic wing with speed to burn and a nose for the line. Right up there with Duckham and Rory Underwood. Always liked him, even when he scored a length-of-the field solo scorcher against Ireland!

I'd certainly rank them 1. Duckham, 2. Underwood, 3. May - as all-round players. Maybe, May was the quickest??? All three were very effective in their time but they were all so different. Duckham's side-step remains etched in my memory.

Rory was effin quick, and apparently timed quicker running with the ball somehow. There's a few i'd have ahead of May tbh.

Did you ever come across a winger called Steven Hayter? Played at junior level with the Underwoods and claims to have been quicker. I only know him via his carpet business.

Big claim. I've played against Tony and he was effin quick.

Quite. Steve is a decent guy. Played in the Midlands (Coventry??), I think, but had a bad impact injury in early twenties resulting in removal of the kneecap and retirement.

Jonny is/was infinitely better than Dan Luger (who should never have gone to the 03 WC ahead of JSD - still boils my p**s) and Tony Underwood but not quite at the levels of Rory Underwood and DD.

Capable of scoring ridiculous tries his growth as a player on the international stage was visible for all to see. He went from being an elusive out and out gas man to one of the worlds best wingers in his prime with a fine all round game.

I was privileged to watch him grow up at Glaws where we knew early on we had a special talent. Very much a ‘one off’ character, very charming and a little off the wall, but a genuinely good guy.

His longevity and dedication to being a better player are not to be sniffed at.
