It is largely the Ruck doing it's usual click bait / sensationalism off the back of a quote from Alex Sanderson where he said Curry may have some chronic issues in the hip, which they've turned into a headline about him never recovering. When in reality it will likely be something he has to manage like most players with various issues their bodies have developed.

Agreed. Plus black and white sombre pictures of him like it's a tribute to him having died!

It's clearly not ideal, but hopefully it's not as bad as Ruck are making it sound. Sounds like Sale are doing absolutely the best things for him regarding his long-term future - Sanderson's likely the best person to look after him, given his and his brother's blighted careers from injuries - so he'll have the best chance possible.

“He has got a dicky hip, that’s the medical term for it."

...... I like Sanderson

That isn't great sounding to be fair.

Better to have it done and dusted - he's only 25 and it's a good opportunity to sort out a chronic issue before it gets worse.

Not good but hopefully a successful op followed by good rehab will see him back in contention next season.

I would expect him to come back strongly after the op and getting back up to condition.

I reckon we've got a few players who would genuinely be benefit from getting off the treadmill for a decent period, letting their bodies heal properly.

Hopefully there'll be a plan for keeping him engaged with meaningful work, to mitigate some of the stuff we still hear about players feeling isolated and lacking purpose when rehabing for lengthy periods.

We'll probably not find out, but it would be interesting to know how much this is linked to him bulking up to play 8.

You're probably not wrong there - Manu's injury troubles eased significantly once he stopped trying to pile excess muscle on and reverted back to a leaner form. Sometimes there's only so much muscle a frame is designed for. Maybe this is a good opportunity for TCurry to re-set his build as well - he was a better player before he bulked up.

I’m intrigued to see how Ben Curry’s test carrier develops from this point and whether he attempts to develop an approach similar to Tom’s ( which is what he appeared to be doing in his last 6 Natons appearances) or alternatively can he can bring a slightly differing style? (Given strong competition from Earl and Underhill for 7 berth.) I maintain there are echos of Jim and Fin Calder in the Curry twin’s test respective test careers to date.

In what sense?

In the sense that it seemed to me that he was somewhat rigidly deployed in doing fetching in the tight channels, some defence and little else. Ludlam and Dombrandt were doing the attack elements and playing in the wider channels.

At the risk of going down this path again, and I realise I'm doing what I've told plenty of others not to in the past, are you not confusing "developing a playing style" with simply carrying out the jobs you've been tasked with in the system being played?

The latter approach sounding a lot more dull with less opportunity to impose an individual style and maximising one’s ability to contribute to winning games :) - Same approach seems to have been imposed on Itoje recently imo
