Just heard Hastings took a nasty one (possibly broken jaw?) and will be out for a while. You have to feel for him. Just unbeleivably bad luck with injuries and they don't even seem to be related.

indeed, no luck with injury. I know some have seen him as defensively weak. All I can say is he has been anything but this season, and very brave. Got his head in the wrong place for this one trying to take down Fifita on the rampage off the back of a scrum IIRC.

Meanwhile Warriors fans hoping Jordan is not snared by the no more than 4 games in a row rule imposed from Murrayfield. Else we are down to McDowall or an academy player plus Weir (who has been a great servant but simply cannt play the game Glasgow play)

In the next 6 weeks Glasgow have 4 Champs Cup Games and 2 1872 games. He is going to have to be rested. Hastings is doubtful for 6N. So Dunky and academy it is for back up, and Weir starting at least one I guess. Then if Hastings recovery as long as feared for a couple of league games

Warriors v Sale

Franco wants Warriors to have a real pop at the Champs Cup. Tough set of fixtures but who knows

Glasgow have some problems at lock. Gray off, Du Preez still injured, ditto Williamson and Brown. Cumming fit and next off the bus to start expected to be Samuel (20 games for Warriors and 10 starts). But this is Franco. Jare Oguntebju made his pro debut last week, and retains his starting slot for his 2nd pro game this week in the Champs cup must win game. Alex Samuel benches

Franco has not taken this decision lightly. Oguntebeju is still in the academy. Late developer only took up rugby at 17 then missed well over 2 years between injury and Covid. He is still very raw and I am not sure et if he will make it all the way. I do think that I saw enough last week to suggest there could be something special in him. Franco I think saw the same as me

Glasgow on fire against Sale. First half hat-trick (and a yellow card) for Horne, five tries in total by Glasgow, 33-12 at half-time. Amazing Dupontesque skill for Horne’s 2nd try.

A more mundane 2nd half but 38-19 is a comfortable win for Glasgow.

Glasgow again have a problem filling out a pack with so many injuries to back row and locks.

So as a new and innovative tactic (in addition to the sort of usual 3 scrum halfs and 3 hookers in the match day squad) Franco Smith has gone all Rassie. Bench problem easily solved by putting your first choice pack and half backs on it

Yes they could have won it, especially if they’d made more of the period Toulon were down to 13 but as losses go that was still a good showing. It further demonstrated that Glasgow have a good squad who need to be taken seriously by opponents. In the past I think teams thought they could simply overpower them but no more.

OTOH Zander Fagerson signs new multi season contract. That is big. Add to Tuipolotu, Steyn and McDowell recently a statement of intent

Obviously great for Glasgow to have 3 top centres, and Smith tends to rotate very smartly, but you’d think they may want more guys available during Scotland windows and the players may all want to be deemed first choice.

There are a few positions of strength for Glasgow where they are suddenly looking short on numbers. Centres now with Jordan needed at 10 and McDowall maybe out for a bit, but also second row, back row, and 10. We've seen it create chances in the second row, hopefully a chance for Simpson at 10 and Munn at 12 at some point.

yep, Jones here until end of 25/26 season. By which time believe it or not he will be 32 and a half.

Glasgow are very unlucky with problems concentrating in a few positions as you list
Have always been light at centre this season and last, Jordan meant to be vying with Hastings for the 10 shirt this season, with one or both being rested as required under SRU rules. Back up was Steyn and Smith, both injured but should be fit very soon, maybe this week. Munn may get a run v Edinburgh, its probably now or never for him, but in a 6/2 bench split difficult for him to get a place unless one of Steyn/Smith are fit or both and Rowe rested.

We are all waiting for Simpson. But I don't think he will play until later this season. Zebre away would be a good beginning - for him or Unwin

McDowell 3 week/games suspension. Misses Edinburgh *2 and Racing. Guess best could hope for.
but Samuel took a bad hit to the kidneys just before HT v Toulon and had to go off, and now reading that Oguntibebu had a leg injury and is doubtful for this week. Only fit locks are Cummings and 2 teenage academy players
