I was watching it and trying to watch Bath v La Rochelle at the same time. Edinburgh better than I expected and it was good to see some youngsters being blooded and for Shiel to get some game time. Considering the team selected and that we had 2 yellows, a BP loss is a decent result. I think the full team could have won it though.

A shame for him but they do need to start moving on. The backrow position has been a bit silly for a few years now.

It's 2 extra years contract extension. He is quoted as being happy that Edinburgh will ne his home for the next 2 and a half years - ie rest of this season and 2 more. I suspect many contracts being signed by star players will ne slightly extended to finish after the RWC. Suitors won't want to pay salaries until player is available.
Contract until after RWC suggests Duhan will be off for a payday after it.

More chance of keeping that yard in Scotland than anywhere else as you'd imagine his games are more closely managed. He's also got fewer miles on the clock than some. This looks suspiciously sensible by us: manage a key weapon until he's just past his prime then let someone else pay him.

I can see why people are keen to move on some older heads from Edinburgh but this re-signing seems sensible to me too. He might not have sparkled since his return but I wouldn't classify him as a chronic underperformer. After all, he burst into the Scotland team off the back of Edinburgh form. It's in the pack that there is a bit of a clearout needed.

On paper, the team for tonight's gane looks great. They really need to be winning consistently when that team is out.

Completely agree. As I said in the Weegie thread there are good players at Edinburgh but they are a terrible team. New coaches and a new direction needed.

Three thoughts:

1. Edinburgh were flat from the start. Glasgow flubbed the opening kickoff and there was no Edinburgh player there to capitalise. Is that on coaches or players?

2. Saying that, Crosbie should always start if fit. Hard carrying and wholly committed.

Schoeman has signed a new three year deal to stay at Edinburgh. Good for Scotland but he needs to perform more consistently for Edinburgh.

Second leg of 1872 Cup teams are out. Edinburgh have dropped Schoeman and Sykes, their yellow card sinners last week, to the bench. Other than that, injuries mean Ashman and Bradbury drop out. Watson is on the bench for his first match since October. I can’t see the result going any way other than a Glasgow win but hopefully Edinburgh will put up more of a fight this week. I’m actually kind of conflicted here. As an Edinburgh supporter I want them to win but I think we need to get rid of Everitt and overhaul the coaching team to get anything out of these players. Unfortunately if we win that makes it more likely that Everitt will be allowed to continue. For the long term development of the club we’d actually be better off losing.

Glasgow win incoming. Smith is so confident that he's starting Dobis at 9. Not sure what the point of Darge on the bench is unless it's a break glass in case of emergency type scenario.

I agree that the coaching team at Edinburgh needs a reset. What I don't want to see is history repeating itself yet again. For example, Harrison has looked really promising when given a chance. But because Everitt and co are coaching for their jobs he's stuck as third choice behind the safe Dave Cherry (who I'm a huge fan of btw but as a great club man and pro). For Glasgow Hiddlestone gets the nod ahead of Stewart because the coaching team have tick solid job security and belief in that security. At some point we've got to stop the chopping and changing.
