Thrilled for John Dalziel. Done the coaching hard yards Melrose > U20s > London Scottish > 7s > Glasgow > national side > Lions. Brilliant.
A touch of the old school about that path.
The last Melrose affiliated Lions coach did a good job, hopefully JD will do the same.

Re: Coaching staff
Pretty surprised by that one. I just didn’t picture him being in the frame.
It’s pretty hard to assess his time with the Scotland pack. There have been some real abject performances, and some where we’ve really punched above our weight against bigger and better teams.
The strength in depth cannot match the top teams, and he can’t be blamed for that, but there are times we’ve simply been overawed with our first choice pack out there too.
I’m sure it will be a great experience for him either way, and interesting to see what Scotland do in his absence.

Re: Coaching staff
I'm amused that Ireland have now had to announce an interim interim head coach for their summer tour after Farrell decided he did want Easterby after all. I'd be annoyed if I were the IRFU - surely there could've been someone else who could step in as defence coach? Maybe not Mike Forshaw, but Tandy's got Lions experience and El Abd's defence showed up well in the 6N.

Jonny Sexton has been added to the coaching team. No coaching experience. He has been pushing selection of Faz Jr. who is lucky to get a game for Racing and does not deserve to tour. Big mistake by Farrell Sr.

Some speculation out there that Sexton's appointment may put the mockers on Finn Russell's selection. Sexton has made it clear that he does not rate him as a game manager, probably rooted in a long-standing jealousy of Russell's flair and play-with-a smile attitude that Sexton so clearly lacked. It would be a shame if this were to happen. WTH is Farrell thinking of

It was so much easier to blame Them. It was bleakly depressing to think They were Us. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.
