Player of the Series

Post by Donny osmond »

I know we have a game to go, so this is too early, but im kind of at a loss how to even judge it?

Obviously the likes of Curry/Genge/others have been outstanding.

But I feel like we are able to focus on their contributions because the likes of Finn R and JGP reach such heights that they let these others flourish. Does that make sense?

FR right now is playing fly-half rugby as good as it gets. I don't mean that in relative terms, like he's better than his competitors, I mean in absolute terms like, its hard to imagine how it can be done better.

JGP suffers only in comparison to the magic of Dupont, but he is also playing scrum half rugby about as good as it gets.

Those two probably wouldn't be considered for player of the series because they haven't been above their usual level, but their usual level is so high that they should be sort of automatically considered for recognition?

Anyway, id vote for Genge so far :D
It was so much easier to blame Them. It was bleakly depressing to think They were Us. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Russell for me. He is a magician.

As for forwards, Sheehan is surely in with a shout.

Back in the real world I agree with those calls. Maybe Genge in the forwards, but he didn’t start the 2nd test.

The word 'class' applies to Russell. I like watching him more than any other player in rugby.

Hard to see past Itoje if they win the 3rd test and he plays anywhere near as good as the 2nd test…

But, agreed that Russell is playing fantastic rugby and just seems to have more time than anyone else on the pitch… I'm just unsure he's had enough of those miracle moments that make a 10 really stand out…

Also, extra shout out for Huw Jones, who has done more than enough to be in the conversation too!

A bit early but Sheehan or Russell would be my two standouts so far.

Huw Jones has been very good overall.

I’d mention Beirne as well. Curry will get a bunch of nominations for being more eye catching, but I like Beirnes dirty work and he’s played a lot of minutes as well.

Think Russell was poor today even if on the back foot.

Probs Beirne overall but today was terrible for most of the team tbh. Itoje was going ok til HIA I suppose.

For the Aussie Wright and Frost we're consistently good I reckon. Jorgenson has two good tests.

Good. I’d go for the warhorse doing the unglamorous work every time.

According to twitter* both Finn Russell and Taigh Beirne have been awarded player of the series. Fcwk knows who is actually tue best.

I know. FInn is miles better than Taigh.

I believe, in a comedy series of events, a sponsor named Russell their player of the series, which everyone took to be the official announcement, only for the actual official one to be declared shortly afterwards, saying it was Beirne, who I'm not sure was even the best player in the back row. He does have the major advantage of being Irish though.

He wasn't given a great deal to work with, the pack were battered, lacklustre, let White and skelton get under their skin too much and then both locks went off.

yes, but he knocked a sitter on, the penalty tap and go was a misjudgement, and he kicked too long mostly. Backline was very disjointed but that was weather n faz n aki.

Can kinda forgive a few errors when the weather is trying to kill you and you can scarcely rely on the people in front or behind.

God I'm starting to sound Scottish. Damn you Banquo.

Lol. I was particularly unimpressed with the tap and go. Then again, the lineout had gone to sh*t.

FFS
Owen Farrell: Emphatically silenced the nepotism claims following his call-up for the injured Daly. He made a strong impact off the bench against the AUNZ XV before being the best of an underwhelming lot in the victory over FNP, where he really showed his class. The latter shift earned him a place on the bench for the last two Tests, where he played a key role in the come-from-behind victory over the Wallabies. The commanding playmaker also shone in the final touring match, but was ultimately left with too much to do. 8
That’s the same mark as JGP and Russell.

Jesus H Fucking Christ, these pundits are fucking insane. Farrell did absolutely fuck all, his performance barely reached even the most basic standard expected of a professional rugby player and some daft cunt on Planet Rugby gives him 8/10. Just fuck the fuck off and keep fucking off till you’ve fucked off as far as it’s possible to fuck off.

On the plus side, as a Scotsman, maybe England will pick him for the 6N.

Yes, I have been drinking since 2 o’clock.
