Adams banned for Wales' remaining autumn Tests

Wales wing Josh Adams is shown a yellow card by referee Matthew Carley, which was upgraded to red.
  • Autumn Nations Series: Wales v New Zealand

Venue: Principality Stadium, Cardiff Date: Saturday, 22 November Kick-off: 15:10 GMT

Coverage: Commentary on BBC Sounds, BBC Radio Wales, BBC Radio Cymru and live text on BBC Sport online.
Josh Adams has been suspended for the rest of Wales' autumn series after being shown a red card in the narrow win against Japan.

The Cardiff wing was shown a yellow card by referee Matthew Carley on the stroke of half-time at Principality Stadium for a dangerous clearout on wing Kippei Ishida at a ruck.

The decision was sent for a bunker review, and it was then upgraded to a 20-minute red card, with Adams replaced by Nick Tompkins for the final quarter of the 24-23 win in Cardiff.

Adams appeared before a disciplinary committee on Tuesday afternoon and was given a ban that will cover Saturday's Test against New Zealand and the autumn finale against South Africa.

He has also been provisionally suspended for Cardiff's Challenge Cup opener at Stade Francais but will be available for the trip to Paris if he completes World Rugby's Coaching Intervention Programme.

"The Disciplinary Committee has upheld the red card issued to the player and by applying World Rugby's sanctioning provisions, have determined that the mid-range entry point of six weeks/matches was appropriate," read a statement.

"In light of the player accepting he committed an act of foul play as well as other mitigating factors, they have applied the maximum 50% reduction in sanction, thus reducing the final sanction to three weeks/matches."

Wales fielded Adams alongside Blair Murray and Louis Rees-Zammit in the back three against Japan.

Rees-Zammit will also be unavailable against the Springboks because the fixture is outside World Rugby's official Test window.

Tom Rogers started against Argentina in the autumn opener while wing Rio Dyer and full-back Jacob Beetham the other options in Tandy's squad.

I'm more annoyed about him missing Stade Francais than the All Blacks and Saffers. Cardiff has a chance of winning that one.

It’s an appropriate ban, it was a stupid thing to do.

Borderline yellow/red for me but totally unnecessary and stupid.

The ban is no loss for Wales IMO but inconvenient for Cardiff.

I'm open to correction here, but... isn't this the first time a Wales player has been red-carded under the head contact protocols?

If I'm right, we had quite some streak going there. i wonder if there's any other countries left on 0?
