Edinburgh A v Glasgow A game at the Hive on Saturday. Would expect to see quite a lot of these players appear.

Incidentally, just watched highlights of the NPC final from New Zealand. It's a wonder we can compete with them, England, France, and South Africa at all. So many opportunities for young, and not so young, players to play at a good level! And that's on top of the far greater number of available spots at the very top pro level.

Edinburgh won 35-26. Bit surprising given Glasgow looked to have a fair bit more pro experience in their ranks. Not sure how accurate the lineups were though given the report I saw said Seb Stephen scored a try.

An Emerging Scotland team played an hour long behind closed doors game against a fairly strong sounding Tonga team on Monday.

Included a fair few of these players.

I suppose that is a good thing. Better than nothing at least, but doesn't seem to be any more coherent a set of fixtures this year than last.

Scotland are playing an A team game against Italy on the day before the 6N match in February. They’ll be coached by Nigel Carolan assisted by Scott Forrest and Steve Lawrie.

About time, we need to give fringe players more experience of international rugby. Let’s have more of these.

same night as Scotland U20 play Italy U20. Its great to get these games but I have to wonder about this. Apart from wanting to follow both (watch them if possible - if I was going out this time I'd be wanting to see both as well as the big boys- there will be some big decisions to be made.
The A game is for experience, the U20s for the 6N - which takes priority for player selection? There may be others but I think OBL will be eligible for both. Of course that may be irrelevant if he is on the bench for Rome ;)

Is OBL the only one who would be in serious contention for both? May depend on how he goes over the next few games, plus how keen they are to give Jamie Stewart game time.
