Marijuana

Post by Which Tyler »

The All Party Parliamentary Group wants the Home Office to reclassify herbal cannabis under existing drug laws, from schedule one to schedule four.

This would put it in the same category as steroids and sedatives and mean doctors could prescribe cannabis to patients, and chemists could dispense it.
About bloody time IMO

Exactly, criminalising those seeking relief from suffering is a waste of time, waste of resources and morally wrong

The law needs changing

It won't happen though. The evidence against keeping cannabis where it is (well frankly against criminalisation, but certainly against maintaining it's class B schedule 1 status) has been clear for ages, but the government in general and May in particular hasn't the least interest in evidence when it comes to drugs.

I hope they don't try and restrict growing your own, wouldn't put it past the tax grabbing sons of sea serpents. Might as well be legal already, can walk into "dispensaries" all over the show and pick up a gram of kush for a tenner.

The homegrown hydroponics industry is ruining our international relations at exactly the time when we should be encouraging these small entrepreneurs from overseas. That's what Brexit was all about.
I haven't even smelled proper black hash for almost 20 years and I feel this is an important cultural tradition that we should be familiar with. It's the same as first pressed olive oil.

Interestingly, Cuba has had a vaccine for lung cancer since 2011 but it is only now being introduced to the American market: http://edition.cnn.com/2016/08/02/healt ... cine-cuba/

That's a potential treatment, not a cure. It's still in the trial phase. It's a great idea, but let's not start sucking each others dicks just yet.

Not according to the report I read in Turkish (which is not the one in English I posted a link to): http://ilerihaber.org/icerik/kubada-sos ... 59935.html

It has had Phase I and II trials (safety, dose response safety/efficacy) and a Phase III trial has just been completed (randomised controls and efficacy; https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26927662).

Like I said, it's a great idea, and is on it's way to the clinic, but there are more trials to come yet. It targets a very prominent endogenous growth factor receptor so longitudinal studies with much bigger sample sizes are what are being discussed with USandA.

A Turkish link is no good to me. It might as well be in , you know, Turkish.

Okay, I'll take your word for it. I'm really no expert on these matters. But the Turkish report clearly states the product has been "successfully" tested and is alreadu available to Cubans 'free of charge.' Anyway, definitely reads like good news. :)

Never trust the press when they're talking about medicine. Even worse there than most other fields.Always going on about the latest cure for cancer, or MMR => autism etc etc

Weed shouldn't just be legal. It should be mandatory.

The commies have been giving it out for free since about 2011. It is probably more palliative than anything else, but it has promise in many contexts. There are other, probably more effective drugs (at increasing survival) than CimaVax, but they are as nowhere near as cost effective (or well tolerated probably). Some Cancer clinic over here (can't remember which one) has filed an IND with the FDA to get that shit out there. They will likely fuck around more than usual because the decades long embargo on Cuban goods means they know nothing about Cuban drug regulation and how to translate it to USandA regulations, which I'm assuming was why Rowan started the Fred in the first place.

While I tend towards agreeing about legalising marijuana, lets be clear about what we're arguing for...

It was so much easier to blame Them. It was bleakly depressing to think They were Us. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

There would (I imagine) be an age restriction on it.

I think we're arguing to move from a crime ridden unregulated supply to a legal regulated supply. So we gain better control of the ingredients, we stop money going to criminals, and we don't have to pay in this instance for a failed war on drugs that's also costing us a fortune in jail sentences.

What we're not doing is arguing drugs are good and now they'll be freely available, quite frankly they're already freely available.

Actually, for the time being, we're arguing about it being available on prescription; subject to the same checks and balances as all other prescription drugs, and opening it up for research purposes (for the last 30 years or so, the only research allowed on marijuana was for deleterious effects, not beneficial - certainly stateside, and IIRC more-or-less throughout the anglosphere)

SSRIs are much worse for adolescents than weed, and that shit gets dished out like lollies. Plus the study linked actually ablated cannabinoid receptors in a subset of neurons in those mice. That's very different from smoking weed.
