That's not a bad signing. Cardiff certainly seem to be rebuilding.

It would be interesting to see the difference in wages between him and Patchell, I can't help thinking this is a step backwards.

I would suspect that he is being seen as a back up 10, behind Anscombe and the young fly half you have played a few times (name escapes me but he has looked promising). More depth than a marquee player, but good enough for the Pro12.

I am a Scarlets supporter Sandy ;), It's pretty much like for like with Patchell who I regard as the better player.

Decent swap. A good steady journeyman for a young talent that needs some learning. It's a tantalising prospect Patchel learning scarlyball under Steven Jones with Gareth Davies and Regan King either side of him.
Gerald Davies, what was he doing there?!

I am a Scarlets supporter Sandy ;), It's pretty much like for like with Patchell who I regard as the better player.

If he doesn't grow as a fly half with that talent around him, I don't think he ever will. A nagging part of me thinks he is better at full back, or could perhaps make a very good centre. But if he's going to the Scarlets to play fly half then he certainly has the right support around him.
