Ok so its not rugby but sad to hear Martin Crowe has lost his battle with cancer. Great cricketer probably NZ's best ever batsman. RIP

Yeah, very sad. One of the most elegant stroke makers in the game. Life's fcked up sometimes.

Oh, that's very sad to hear. I hadn't seen the news. He could play rugby - he was on the wing when Grant Fox was kicking the leather off it for Auckland Grammar 1st XV.

One of NZ's few world class batsmen, he also gave a lot back to the team working with individuals.

Just awful news.

Great player. Wonderful to watch with a very fine test average of 45.

That's an excellent average as it is, but it's worth remembering that he was chucked in as 19 year old straight out of school and struggled for a while. I believe his average after the age of 22 (i.e about when the likes of Aussie would have selected him) was 50+.

His precocious talent, combined with the paucity of ability in NZ cricket must have been hard to handle. I think he was playing NZU23s at 14 years old!

not to mention as the best batsman other teams would have targetted him more.

wonderful player, massive contribution to the game and the world has lost a lovely human being far too early.

Some of that Cricket Max stuff from the 90's was a bit dodgy though.
At least he was thinking outside the square with his ideas :)

It was a bit extreme but he was ahead of his time in seeing the need for a shorter version of the game, and I've read a couple of things talking about how it contributed to the idea for T20 cricket later on.
