PC v. Mac rugby streams

Post by Spiffy »

I have to get rid of my old Vista-based PC since the operating system is no longer supported by Microsoft. So much for customer loyalty. Living in Canada, I am totally reliant on streams to watch live rugby. I have been getting by OK with Vipbox and Circfree, but it's a bit of a constant battle to fight off malware, which will now be almost impossible to do. Anyone using a Mac for these or other live streams? How does it compare with PC? Better? Safer? More virus-resistant? Is there any built-in Mac software that will not allow connection to dodgy sites? If so can it be overruled etc..... Thinking of switching, but I don't know enough about Macs. Thanks for all advice on this.

Just get a decent ad blocker and anti-virus combination and malware will not be an issue.

There's free options available for both (Ad Block Plus, AVG, Avast), but Ad Guard is superb at blocking the naughty scripts on sites like cricfree and crichd. Plus browsing elsewhere will also be safer and quicker as a result.

I appreciate this doesn't answer your question about Mac browsing. I haven't used a Mac for quite a few years so cannot comment on how things are with malware these days.

Congrats on sticking with Vista for so long!

Install KODI which will run on either operating system and install the sports devil plugin and the exodus plugin for films and tv:

Kodi: https://kodi.tv/download

Sports Devil: https://iwf1.com/install-sportsdevil-xbmc/

Exodus: https://www.tvaddons.ag/kodi-addons/sho ... eo.exodus/

There are numerous help videos for doing this on youtube if you are not technical tho it is fairly straightforward.

Cheers. I have an ad blocker but several of the sites won't let you in unless you disable it. Microsoft Security Essentials has been doing an OK job but is no longer supported. I still have an ancient version of Trend Micro Office scan which surprisingly seems to work. Vista has actually been running well, especially on a fast machine (Sony one-pice). I think it got an early bum rap when some eqipment which tried to use it was not up to the requirements.

KODI won't require any ad blocker so you should be fine.

I'm not going to have the FBI kick my door in and raid my house if I use Kodi, right?

As far as I'm aware, the only prosecutions for KODI use have been in the UK, and then its for people selling TV boxes with the Add Ons already installed. I don't believe there has been any successful or even attempted prosecutions for streaming content. If you do get arrested please let the rest of us know so we can go on the lamb.

I am clearly not a techie, but does Kodi access channels like, Sky, ESPN, BBC, RTE etc.. without viral threats (or no ads?)

Do you need to load all these channels separately to kodi or is there some catch-all site where you can get the lot, then just select which toy want to watch?
