Re: The Masters
What a bizarre last couple of hours!
Spieth was in total control but a 7(!) on the par 3 12th has cost him the jacket.
Hats off to Willett though as he still had work to do and finished with some sweet shots considering the pressure.

yep, huge choke from Spieth, but Willett had still to make birdies and close it out....great round from him.

Re: The Masters
Willett's an Englishman ??.. what a turn-up.
Spieth must feel more like a turn-ip but he'll win loads more.
( Unlike the perennial bridesmaid Westwood who looks like he'll never bag a major now - pity Willets couldn't fudge it for him )
Not sure what it is it about the Augusta event at this time of year that has brought so many European winnners over the years..it's not as if the course is familiar. Any ideas ? is it when it's pitched in the season ?

What an amazing couple of hours
Fair play to Willett - seems like a top bloke
Spieth will take a while to get his head back after this I imagine

Re: The Masters
first European winner for 17 years! First win by a European was Seve in 1980, which brought on a relatively golden patch for European wins until 1999.....Faldo won it 3 times in that period, Seve/Langer/Olazabal twice, and Woosnam/Lyle once each. So Europe was pretty dominant for nearly 20 years, with nothing before and only one since. Its an odd one- probably that was just a golden period for European golf with a fair few truly great players.Galfon wrote:Willett's an Englishman ??.. what a turn-up.

Those greens are just mental.

Re: The Masters
There's a guy called Jeff Knox, a local, who plays as the with the spare man (if there is one) at the bottom of the field at the weekend......he often outscores the pro he plays with (shot a 70 vs McIlroy's 71), and its because he is so brilliant on the greens. (he is on the greens committee too!).WaspInWales wrote:Those greens are just mental.
He holds the course record off the forward members tees..........61!!

Mental shots to the green from both Rose and Garcia. Rose very lucky indeed, but Garcia's was pinpoint.
It has been up and down this final round but what a finish!

Ohhhhh Rose! Thought that was in.
Holes for par.
Garcia has one putt to win.

He's missed it! Very poor putt from Garcia.
He's made par and it goes to a playoff.
England V Spain. Winner takes Gibraltar.

Re: The Masters
Garcia's putting is a shit show when under pressure. The rest of his clubs are on fire, though. I've got some money on Rose but I'd love Garcia to win. As an aside, Mrs Garcia is lovely.

Re: The Masters
Huge advantage for Garcia as Rose drives into the trees. Could've been a little bolder on his second shot but went for safety.

Re: The Masters
Unless Rose can hole his third or leave it within inches, this is going to go to Garcia.
Cracking second shot.

Not much in it for putting distance but Garcia has a shot to play with. Hard to imagine he'll screw it up.

Was it me or was the crowd booing Rose on the 18th?

Close but not close enough from Rose.
Two for the win for Garcia.

Garcia nails it. It wiped its feet but dropped.
Garcia is the Masters Champion.

Re: The Masters
There was definitely booing but not sure if it was directed at a player or spectator or perhaps a ref or someone else doing something off-screen.Mellsblue wrote:Didn't hear it but they're definitely with Sergio.
Definitely supporting Garcia though. Top player and very popular so fair enough.
That's Gibraltar sorted then.

Great golf last night. Looking forward to watching the open now. Oh hang on, no sky.
Sky is all well and good and provides to those already fans, but I'm not sure that subscription TV can ever get as many people into a sport as having the big events free to air.
