I simply cannot believe that Launchbury and Joseph are omitted. They are test candidates. I reckon these rumours are nonsense.

The cynic in me says that someone is starting these rumours so that we all think it isn't too bad when the squad is released, especially on the England players.hugh_woatmeigh wrote:I simply cannot believe that Launchbury and Joseph are omitted. I could understand Earls being in. He's still a clinical finisher, has pace and has improved his defence tremendously. But Roberts...............ARM wrote:The Telegraph 'leak' which names Roberts has 1 Scot in a 40 man squad.
And Keith Earls.
Tomorrow will be entertaining.

Scotland's last two grand slams came off the back of healthy representations on the previous years Lions tours.Mellsblue wrote:It's a fair point, assuming you beat Aus, but I think a couple of your younger, potentially world class players would benefit. J Gray and H Watson spring to mind. J Gray as future captain definitely would benefit. I hope he does go, mainly as I think he deserves to but also because I want him to become world class and I think the Lions in NZ will help him get there a bit quicker.whatisthejava wrote:Whats better for morale , getting pumped in NZ playing a crap style of rugby that wont work or going to Australia and beating them at home, Australia seem to be full on self destruct right now, so i think a great chance for Scotland to beat them,Mellsblue wrote:Disappointing responses, if I'm being honest. Where's the fight, lads? Kruis, as much as I rate him, is a ridiculous call.
It's fair point that a number of emerging Scottish players would benefit hugely from the Lions experience as a developing Scotland team hopefully reaches its peak in the next couple of years 6 Nations tournaments and World Cup.
That would never enter the minds of the returning Welsh coaches at all of course.

Yeah, some weird names. Either a complete misdirection to add genuine surprise to the announcement or some folk leaking to gently let down some players.Big D wrote:To be honest at this point if the leaks are true some of the English boys are more hard done to than the Scots.
Hard to say, Gatland is such a prick it could be either

To be fair. I'd imagine borthwick would have big input on forward selection.whatisthejava wrote:Yeah, some weird names. I don't have an issue with Warburton as tour captain anyway. Some of these rumoured selections and omissions are rank rotten though.

Not quite sure what other options there were anyway. AWJ isn't guaranteed a test spot. Rory Best fails to inspire, Hartley is a poor choice all round & we have options.

Re: Lions
If we aren't picking squad on 6N performance why not make your captain the one captain who has managed to be in a team that has actually beaten the ABs this year. Not a player who was dropped as his country's captain due to the pressure of being a captain hindering his performance as a player. Its basically 2005 all over again.hugh_woatmeigh wrote:Not quite sure what other options there were anyway. AWJ isn't guaranteed a test spot. In 2005 we couldnt tackle and couldnt score tries under Matt WilliamsBig D wrote:Only 2 went to NZ on the original party.
compare that to now and its amazing that we still only have 2

Warburton has been Lions captain before. There are a few reasons he relinquished the Welsh captaincy but I'm ok with him being your captain.sharvey44 wrote:If we aren't picking squad on 6N performance why not make your captain the one captain who has managed to be in a team that has actually beaten the ABs this year. Much happier with him than AWJ.
6N form is important for most of the squad. I can almost understand picking the odd player who is experienced on Lions tours.

Sadly given those out injured I wouldn't take more than 4 Scots.whatisthejava wrote:In 2005 we couldnt tackle and couldnt score tries under Matt WilliamsBig D wrote:Only 2 went to NZ on the original party.

Which is a shame because there was an argument for double that at one point.

For example if these welsh boys were scottish we would make these arguments against them
1/2p done anything to deserve to go ahead of Seymore, Maitland, Mike brown, Rob Kerney , hasnt scored a try at international level in years, got outpaced by Keith friking earls
North - managed to score in a corner against Ireland and score against Italy, got rounded by Visser - does he really deserve to go based on the fact that he got rounded
JD - Can kick under pressure, cant pop a simple ball to a runner to score, - does he deserve to go
Falatau - part of bath that got pumped by Sarries
Warburton - completly got outshined by Watson and part of a team that got turned over 17 times, what the hell was he doing that day, cant handle the cpataincy of his country but somehow he can manage a lions tour
AWJ - cant last 60 mins, cant stamp any authority on a game and then winges about it after

Faletau has been immense whenever I've seen him recently to be fair. Right about AWJ though, why everyone still has such a massive bonk on for him I'm not sure.

He gets tons of free positive PR from the Welsh press. How the fuck can they justify him going over Launchbury?Mikey Brown wrote:Faletau has been immense whenever I've seen him recently to be fair. Right about AWJ though, why everyone still has such a massive bonk on for him I'm not sure.

Because he's mean and a relentless warrior and has the heart of a dragon and loads of other weird shit like that.
Oh and he never takes a backwards step. Can't forget that one.
