You ever spent any time in Scotland? Folk here start collapsing in the street at 23C. The bitching about "the heat" starts at anything with a 2 in front of it.Lizard wrote:I said "ok", not "perfect."OptimisticJock wrote:That might be ok to a kiwi....Lizard wrote: Fiji will be ok. Re: Australia tour
I spent a week or so in Glasgow around New Years 2000/01, went to every All Blacks match at Murrayfield 2005-2008, and did a short tour 2008/09.

Cool, so you'll have an idea of the conditions during what we laughingly call "Summer". ie Identical to Spring and Autumn, but with more daylight.Lizard wrote:I spent a week or so in Glasgow around New Years 2000/01, went to every All Blacks match at Murrayfield 2005-2008, and did a short tour 2008/09.

Any idea when the squad is announced? I guess after the conclusion of the domestic season?

Not quite the same. You're actively supporting an institution that sneers at your country at every available opportunity. I won't support it and I'm sure many Scots share my views.Edinburgh in Exile wrote:I hope Kinghorn gets a run.

Re: Australia tour
Started trying to come up with this squad but really there's little to change beyond the size of the squad, the existing problems (3 and 8 particularly) and the gaps at 13/14/15.
1. Reid / Dell / Allan
2. Brown / Ford (is MacInally even getting any games? Can't he move back to 8 now?)
3. Fagerson / Welsh / Berghan or 43 year old Gavin Kerr?
4. Gray / Swinson
5. Gray / Toolis or Gilchrist
6. Barclay / Wilson
7. Watson (when we parachuting this Gibbins guy in?)
8. Strauss / Denton / Ashe (whoever is actually fit I guess)
9. Price / Laidlaw (would really like to see Laidlaw used from the bench)
10. Russell / Horne
11. Visser
12. Scott / Taylor
13. Dunbar / Grigg? (Is he qualified? These centres could be in any combination really but I'm concerned Dunbar may be a bit shagged out)
14. Maitland / Hoyland
15. Kinghorn
What a pointless task that that. Looking very thinly spread already without any injuries. Taylor can at least cover the 3/4s and Maitland fullback. I'm assuming Dicko/Nel are basically fucked forever.
Is Hughes ever likely to be good enough?

Any particular reason you don't rate D'arcy Rae, MB? Many would have had him backing up Fagerson in the 6N. I preferred Welsh to Berghan but Rae is a superior player as well.

You pretty much got them all, except for R Hughes, Jackson could cover FBMikey Brown wrote:Started trying to come up with this squad but really there's little to change beyond the size of the squad, the existing problems (3 and 8 particularly) and the gaps at 13/14/15.

Forgot about Jackson. Which as a Quins fan is not something I want to be saying. He's been hit and miss even by his standards. I do happen to think he's quite a handy 15 though and more 10 cover may well be needed if Horne is one of our best centres.
The Hughes thing was a question really. I've seen him almost do great things a few times but never really convert. A decent, powerful winger would be brilliant for this side too.
On D'Arcy Rae I have nothing except I was drawing a blank and haven't seen a whole lot of him. Very conceivably is better than Berghan.

There's loads missing from that list. I reckon Ritchie, Cummings, Rae & L Jones will travel as well. Plenty more, I'm sure.whatisthejava wrote:You pretty much got them all, except for R Hughes, Jackson could cover FBMikey Brown wrote:Started trying to come up with this squad but really there's little to change beyond the size of the squad, the existing problems (3 and 8 particularly) and the gaps at 13/14/15.

I'm not sure Dunbar is ever an international 13 anymore.
He's at 12 for me.

I'm just in the habit of writing that I suppose. I still feel that's where he's played his absolute best but not sure if he is that same player anymore. I just feel a bit of acceleration is better at 12.Big D wrote:I'm not sure Dunbar is ever an international 13 anymore.

So is this Aust/Scotland/Italy/Fiji round robin still officially a mini tournament or not, now that it's being played across 3 countries?

Has anything been said about Kinghorns summer workload? SRU/VC sent Fagerson to the u20s last year so I wonder whether the same approach will happen.

Can't be bothered to go through the whole squads but just in terms of players that might be rated higher than before now townsend is in charge, I would say the main one just now would be Lee Jones. It is a position we are short in and he has been consistently good this year
