Behind a paywall, so can't read it, but the line 'England could have won the world cup, nearly' was almost good enough to make me pay.

If we can snatch a win on Saturday it will finally put to bed this kind of drivel. England were out on their feet in the last 20 minutes and could not even set a rolling maul.joshfishkins wrote:Behind a paywall, so can't read it, but the line 'England could have won the world cup, nearly' was almost good enough to make me pay.

Re: Owen Slot article
Nothing on Earth will put this kind of drivel to bed. If we win a close-ish match on Saturday, the articles will be full of what ifs and similar things (and you can imagine what the articles will say if any of our points came from remotely questionable referee decisions). We would need to beat England home and away with something more than this approx 50% success rate to make this kind of article too embarassing to write.normanski wrote:If we can snatch a win on Saturday it will finally put to bed this kind of drivel. And that is why the line was there, just before the paywall began.joshfishkins wrote:Behind a paywall, so can't read it, but the line 'England could have won the world cup, nearly' was almost good enough to make me pay.

Re: Owen Slot article
The Owen Slot rubbish goes on about garces admitting he should never have given 3 of the Welsh pens, England feeling like they'd been training rather than in a game as the match was so stop start, Burgess "doing his job," and the mail defence pushing before the player hit the ground, so should've been a pen. England's fitness wasn't tested, they thought they had the edge there apparently.
Fascinating stuff.

I commented on this on the Times' website. It's a dreadful article, sour grapes at their worst.

To be fair, a Welshman who consistently pours cold water on Wales.Hooky wrote:Written by a Welshman.Numbers wrote:http://www.theguardian.com/sport/2016/m ... ugby-union

Re: Owen Slot article
From an English perspective that article was cringeworthy. Clickbait? Slightly like the Eng victory in NZ in 2003. The NZ press's sense of entitlement was risible. Again here, what does Mr Slot really mean? Wales won a vital match and England lost cos we were not as good on the day. Please do not repeat the performance tomorrow!
(A welsh friend attended the WC match. She omitted to buy one of the expensive souvenir programmes - were they £20? - but no matter, there were enough abandoned copies to furnish a bookstore..)

Aye, the recommending Hook bit at the end for example. His motives aren't entirely honest methinks.UKHamlet wrote:To be fair, a Welshman who consistently pours cold water on Wales.Hooky wrote:Written by a Welshman.Numbers wrote:http://www.theguardian.com/sport/2016/m ... ugby-union
