Makes sense.
I kind of got that much myself, I just wondered why after years of not having a ten, we have one that looks like he could be the business and then think about moving him elsewhere.....
I personally though Taylor was ok at 15 but not under a lot of pressure all the time, getting him on the pitch somewhere to me makes sense though as he is clearly level headed, but at the expense of our other centres (Jones in particular) i am not sure, he seems to be a good option to me at FB with some practice, as I say level headed, steady and as backup that would do me.
What is the name of the Weegie fella a bit like Horne who backs up at full back for Hogg at club level? Mind blank....
We're not moving him really though are we? It's a development tour while the first 4 options (Hogg, Maitland, Seymour, Kinghorn) are injured, away with Lions or have other commitments.
I don't see why this is a development tour. The last few losses to Australia have really hurt and it would be a big thing to go there and put that right.
I'd love to have more options at 10 but I don't see why Townsend would even be considering Russell at 15 for this game, unless Taylor had been a disaster. Hasn't Horne played there a bit anyway? Dropping back to field kicks or letting others stand in at first receiver seems pretty different to actually designating him as the fullback.
I'd love to see it against another side at some point though.
I never said he was considering Russell at 15 for Aus. I said he'd get time there on this tour. And technically he has (on defensive duties) and was very effective. I expect to see him running the ball back against Aus as well. If he starts at 15 it'll be against Fiji.

Think that was more to get Taylor into the game, not a bad tactic but felt a few times we were not covered at the back and a better team would have caused us more issues

I see it more as a way of attempting to generate quick ball without having gigantic ball carries, moving the point of contact just before means the defence has to reorganize giving us more time to clear out and make quick ball , Wales and England tend to use their monsters to smash the gain line, we dont have big enough players to do it so we use a different tactic
"Move" is bit strong by me, I meant use him there, your 10 to me is one of the most important players on the pitch and to me he should be there, not being used elsewhere unless in case of mega emergency. I just wouldnt have a second choice play maker if your best one is available to start.
Murchie, cheers Hugh, that's him, is he not any good (cant think Ive seen him much of late)? What about the wee kiwi fella, is he an option (again, shite with names....) Weeg centre.

Anyone know when the team is announced? Expecting a full strength team & bench. Time for experimentation & exposure for Rae, Turner, Allan, etc will likely be against Fiji.

I'm expecting Reid, Gray & Watson to come in.
I thought Dell was quite good v Italy though I normally prefer Reid
Agreed but Reid is a bit taller and about 15kg heavier and I still don't consider him a huge prop. Dell's size still worries me on occasion which is in the back of my mind in a game in which I think we can really get one over the aussies at scrum time. Dell, Brown and Ragnar coming off the bench on 50m is a scary thought! Plus Swinson and Strauss... really exciting bench.
1. Reid
2. Brown
3. Fagerson
4. Toolis
5. Gray
6. Barclay (c)
7. Watson
8. Wilson
9. Price
10. Russell
11. Hughes
12. Taylor
13. Dunbar
14. Jones
15. Tonks
Reps: Ford, Dell, Nel, Swinson, Strauss, Pyrgos, Jackson, Scott
Didn't see Tonks starting TBH. Centres seems to be a counter to Kurundrani and maybe they didn't fancy Visser in the air against Folau and Speight.
Shouldn't see any drop off in the forwards with that bench.
So I'm just trying to sort tickets and transport to the Fiji game in Suva. For all the love we have in NZ for Island rugby, you have to say that the administrators don't exactly endear themselves:
