Messi & Oscar sitting in a cell....

Post by WaspInWales »

The little genius has allegedly been sentenced to 21 months in prison for tax evasion.

Oscar got 6 years for murder, possibly out in 2-3 years which is a result I'm sure he would've given his arms for a while ago.

It's ridiculous that any sentence less than 2 years can be suspended in Spain.

Pistorious should have had the book thrown at him especially after his initial denial of the crime.

A messi business indeed:

Spain’s Supreme Court has rejected an appeal by footballer Lionel Messi against a 21-month prison sentence for tax fraud.

The Barcelona star was found guilty by a Catalan court last July on three counts of tax fraud between 2007 and 2009.

Messi and his father Jorge, who manages his financial affairs, were both convicted of a tax fraud of 4.1 million euros.

Jorge Messi’s jail term was reduced because he has paid back some of the money owed.

In Spain, prison terms of under two years can be served on probation.

Christian Ronaldo could be next:

Spanish prosecutors are considering whether Cristiano Ronaldo should face charges over allegations by the country's tax agency that he defrauded the authorities of 15 million euros ($16.7 million) between 2011 and 2014.

Well, that escalated quickly

Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly told his agent to get him a transfer to Paris Saint-Germain as a proposed return to Manchester United seemingly falls through.

Barbers in this city are great. Very meticulous and chat with you (in Turkish) the whole time. & all for the equivalent of six or seven euros. Today I spent half an hour chatting with the 11-year-old assistant who was a big football fan and knew more about the New Zealand team in the Confederations Cup than me. Anyway, they're playing Portugal now and I predicted a 5-0 win for the Europeans. Scoreless after 20 minutes.

Update: Portugal up 2-0 at HT
Update: Portugal won 4-0 !!

This Confederations Cup is a joke. NZ & Australia competing - together? :?

Is New Zealand even in the world's top 50 football playing nations?

To answer my own question, NZ is actually 95th !! What kind of tournment has the 95th best team in the world playing in it? Australia only just scrapes into the top 50 at 48th. This whole thing went pear-shaped when they gave an automatic berth to Oceania (& didn't this happen around the same time NZ's Scottish-born FIFA delegate defied the wishes of his own confederation and gave the crucial vote to Germany to host the 2006 World Cup ahead of SA)? . Oceania should be treated like the Caribbean Islands and made sub-group of the Asian confederation. It's well established that the native peoples came from that continent, too, but I suspect the main reason they've never been considered part of Asia is that the two traditional power houses of Oceania were white-dominated Australia (who have sinced moved to Asia for a better standard of competition) & NZ.

Anyway, for what it's worth, Germany eliminated African champs Cameroon 3-1 today, while Chile and Australia drew 1-1. Interestingly, Chile and Australia also drew at the 1974 World Cup.

Ronaldo is 32 now i believe and of course he and his agent are pushing for a move. This will be his last huge deal and the agent will get around 15% isnt it? Then we he is 35/36 he will do the obligatory China or USA move. But this is a chance for Ronaldo and all the hangers on to earn big money.

Russia eliminated from their own tournament too. They'd got a lot of work to do . . .

 This is why football is so much more interesting than rugby as an international game: Unpredictability. Germany - Chile final it is. The former thumped Mexico 4-1, while Chile surprisingly beat Portugal on penalties. I'll take the easy option for the final and say Germany to win, but I'd rather see Chile do it - and you just never know!

Germany won. :( Remind me not to get interested in the sport again. In spite of its relative unpredictability, the same old boring teams always seem to win the silverware...
