Blues v Dragons

Post by Numbers »

I'm quite looking forward to this match, here are the teams:

Cardiff Blues: Rhun Williams; Alex Cuthbert, Rey Lee-Lo, Willis Halaholo, Tom James; Jarrod Evans, Lloyd Williams (capt); Brad Thyer, Kristian Dacey, Taufa'ao Filise, Seb Davies, Damian Welch, Josh Navidi, Olly Robinson, Nick Williams.

Replacements: Matthew Rees, Corey Domachowski, Keiron Assiratti, George Earle, Josh Turnbull, Tomos Williams, Steven Shingler, Matthew Morgan.

Dragons: Hallam Amos; Ashton Hewitt, Tyler Morgan, Jack Dixon, Jared Rosser, Gavin Henson, Sarel Pretorius; Brok Harris, Elliot Dee, Leon Brown, Matthew Screech, Cory Hill (capt), James Thomas, Ollie Griffiths, James Benjamin.

Replacements: Liam Belcher, Luke Garrett, Lloyd Fairbrother, Joe Davies, Aaron Wainwright, Owain Leonard, Angus O'Brien, Will Talbot-Davies.

Interesting to see Amos at 15 for this match, I'm hoping he will run the ball back a fair bit, the Dragons backline looks pretty good and luckily for them the Blues scrum is far from destructive, if the Dragons can keep their set piece in order then they have a chance in this one, looking at the team selection Jackman is also targetting this match.

I would expect the Blues to win by 5-10 points.

Blues putting the pressure on this half, some good scramble defence by the Dragons though.

Lack of bench options killed the Dragons tonight.
Nice to see Tyler Morgan showing he's hungry & getting into some form.

Well that didn't look at all likely at half-time. Quite an entertaining game in the end. You have to feel for the Dragons who put so much into the game but came up very short in the end.

Our twin problems on display last night, a very average pack and no depth. Some decent performances from The Dragons, but we ran out of steam.

Fair play to Cardiff who took advantage and at least we got a BP out of it.

Gav had a great first half but could have done with being subbed off a good 20 minutes earlier, some poor kicks allowed Cardiff to keep the pressure on. But, agreed, the Dragons ran out of steam, having almost no possession for most of the second half.

You could've predicted that outcome even after the 1st half display given the respective strength (or lack of it) of both benches.
Rugby is more and more a squad game at the top level these days.
The bench are as important as the starting XV.

What they glossed over during the match and in the post match analysis was the strength of the wind.
