Well it should be fairly fresh at least. Interesting team - doesnt seem all to be on form / designed with just this game in mind. I'd have preferred is just to go all out for the win here (e.g. by keeping Graham and Johnson in) but will be a good test for some players.
Not sure I have ever really noticed Christie much when he has come on to be honest. I think we needed to keep the same backrow after last week.
Yes, excited to see Smith start.

Graham has concussion.
Not sure why the locks needed changing, especially to get Gray in. Tuipolotu as a hard running centre only works if he is up to it which he isn't yet.

There are always injuries in a season and Edinburgh have shown regularly that 5/6 locks are needed through a season. I suspect Hodgson will slip back into the solid club pro category in the coming years.Mikey Brown wrote:
Not sure I’ve got much opinion on Glenn Young? I just don’t get how Gilchrist, Skinner, Hodgson, Young and Sykes can all be at Edinburgh and vying for Scotland spots.

Yeah I think more an indictment of where Scotoand are with depth than Edinburgh simply having too many players. Having said that, it didn't make sense to move Sykes from Glasgow a couple of years ago (though I'm delighted we did).Big D wrote:There are always injuries in a season and Edinburgh have shown regularly that 5/6 locks are needed through a season. Not overly enthused by that lineup. On the plus side it's good to see that bsvkrow together again. Wish I could same at 10/12/13.

I know what you mean RE Christie. He always looked energetic and involved, but not totally sure about his nuts and bolts play. That's why I thought a start would be useful to really see if he's got it. Townsend's frequent routine of giving players 10 minute cameos at random intervals throughout a season just doesn't seem that helpful for really assessing whether a player has it at this level, or that they can settle in to a role. I feel Crosbie is more trusted (despite fewer caps I think) so may as well have put him on the bench for this one if we're sticking with Darge/Watson. I love both 7s but not sure I'm a fan of the combo.Cameo wrote:Well it should be fairly fresh at least. Interesting team - doesnt seem all to be on form / designed with just this game in mind. Similar with Tuipulotu, White and several others. Start, out, bench, out, start again. I'm all for rotation and (hopefully) establishing a bit of depth and competition, particularly on this tour where we're resting the Lions. Lots of people bemoaning Kinghorn starting at 10 again, but I'd much rather have given him this whole series to make his case and then come to a conclusion longer term. Don't think he has the control for 10 at this stage, and I hope GT sees that too, but at least we know where he's at.

Let's put it this way @Mikey Brown, would all these moaners rather we experiment with him at 10 v Argentina now or in Autumn against New Zealand where he could have a nightmare and we get absolutely hammered, I know what I'd prefer!
Some people just like a moan and most of them are old gits (please detect sarcasm before lambasting me haha).

There's not much to say that hasn't already been said 1000 times. To throw away a 15 point lead with 10-15 minutes left is criminal.Mikey Brown wrote:Wow. Not one post today.

Restarts, still shit, have been shit for 20 years
Skill level, still pretty shit at times, have been a bit shit for 20 years
Set piece, inconsistent, has been inconsistent for 20 years
Kinghorn is not an international 10 and wont be at any point in the next 20 years. What's the fwcking point in bringing Thompson on with about 10 mins to go. Horne and SJ left on the bench. Tuipulopoo looks like he runs in treacle, at least Johnson actually breaks the gain line and can run fast.
I completely understand why no-one is on here as it just feels like groundhog day every time they play and ppl say the same things every time.

Re: Summer Test Series vs Argentina
I thought Kinghorn was good today. Passing much better, restarts amazing as always, nice offload for a try, threatened the line, and good kicking to touch and for goal.
Decent performance all round for sixty five minutes actually just let down by the lineout and restarts. Made ground both in the backs and forwards and some nice handling.
Then a mixture of silly mistakes (Price's kick straight out for one) and a defence that gradually looked weaker and weaker let us down. Gutting but I'm pleased with the effort.
Don't want to moan about refs (especially as I don't mind O'Keefe) but that advantage over for the first Argentina try was way out of line with what is normally called. Price kicked it and Kinghorn got a flyhack to it under pressure. Other times you can get to a cross field kick and have a chance to catch it put it down for the try, and the ref calls advantage over if you drop it.

From the tour as a whole, I think we learnt a bit. Bennett makes a big difference to our attack for one. Fagerson is vital and we always need at least one of Darge or Watson on the pitch. Smith also did okay on his first start.
