The continued radio silence from the WRU isn’t a good look either.
NB I don't think the funding structure for the regions is the top priority, although it's pretty important. I'd say the priorities are as follows:Sandydragon wrote: ↑Tue Mar 18, 2025 10:59 amPuts that into perspective doesn’t it? I’m assuming that the legal position is a bit murky, if there was a simple way to replace the regions withWRU owned entities I suspect Lewis would have done it.
I think the most important thing is to identify a group of players who can cut it, and ensure they have every benefit we can give them. We can’t afford to cast a wide net.Son of Mathonwy wrote: ↑Tue Mar 18, 2025 1:39 pmNB I don't think the funding structure for the regions is the top priority, although it's pretty important. What I don't understand is how Moffat was able to make such huge changes 20 years ago but now any change seems impossible.
1) Identification and development of young players.
2) Find an excellent head coach for the national team.
3) Find an excellent head of rugby for the WRU.
4) Align the player operations of the regions with the national team, ie get everyone following the same basic (carefully developed) plan for fitness, development, tactics, player positions.
5) Restructure the funding for the regions to focus it more tightly (eg 2+2, 1+2+1 model).
Additional - vitally important if it ever becomes possible - form an Anglo-Welsh league instead of the URC - to get improved crowd numbers, shorter travelling, more meaningful contests.
