Massive snap back to the mean there as we go for a bunch of thoughtless one out plays with their entire defence spread over about 10 metres.

Christ but you lot have got lucky. Until numpty number one caught fresh air instead of the ball and numpty number two face butted the ball over the Japanese defence you were in all sorts of trouble.

Just before we got to the line and screwed up all the pick-and-drives, when we recycled after the Earl and May runs. Japanese player made an upright tackle with head-on-head contact and the Japanese player left reeling. At minimum, it needs to be an HIA, but it looked very much like a red card.

Theo Dan just always wants to take the ball at pace and run with intent. I'm certain that we'll beat it out of him eventually, but he's good to watch so far.

It's worrying how much more composed we look with Youngs at 9. Some nice phases at the end there but man that was turgid. Job done but didn't we just bodge it.

We've been here for years though. Starting scrum half looks bad, sub comes on and improves things, gets picked to start, looks terrible, guy he replaced comes on and looks better.
Just seems to be down to instructions. We cut out most of the aimless kicking in the last 10 when we started moving it with some pace and purpose.

An improved 2nd half (how could it not be?).
Earl was our best player.
We looked a lot better when Smith and Lawrence came on. Dan added some much needed zip.

We showed a bit of invention late on and got a 4 try bonus point. Too many errors to be a real threat to anyone but in this case a (world cup group stage) win is a win and it was comfortable in the end.
Smith at 15 looks fun going forwards but defensively I'm not seeing it. Thought Earl look pretty good. When Billy V came on I'm not sure what he did or whether I heard his name on commentary.

Agree completely with the first part. Second part, I think there's a certain tactical element but I think it's being over used by players lacking confidence. Daly kicked towards the corner off attacking ball he could have run with at least three times. Ok the kicks weren't bad but it was certainly on for him to have a crack. He just looked like he didn't back himself. Similar with Lawes making the break, Daly calling the switch probably makes more ground instead he flounders on the outside and gets tackled into touch. SCW may be on to something. If we have an endless supply of attacking ball 5 metres out all we have to do is kick it to Steward and we can win the World Cup. I hope the coaches are listening.

only highlight was slow browbeater winding jngf up by putting an 8 on Ludlam and having pack down at openside, then subbing him for Billy on 50
