I'm amazed that given the situation which saw him booted out of government he thought this was a reasonable move. I'd imagine he's angling more for another cabinet role rather than seriously thinking he stood a chance at being leader, but it does seem somewhat sick.
I think lot of conservative supporters feel that he has had his chance, but in a post Brexit party he perhaps thinks he will be more popular. I suspect he realizes that he is a huge outsider, but just wants to remind the next PM that he exists and if he were to endorse another candidate following his elimination then there would be a quid pro quo.

Fox out. May 165, Leadsom 66, Gove 48, Crabb, 34 and Fox 16. May would have to screw up spectacularly not to make the last 2.

Didn't Gove suggest machine gunning prisoners a while back the chinless four-eyed cunt?

Now this feeling I can empathise with.

Surely that they've a chance to look rather more competent than some others when it comes to the parliamentary party and the member base will count for a fair amount.

Thank fuck it isn't Leadsom. I'd have taken Gove or Boris long before her. Although disappointingly it probably puts the kibosh on the creation of a new centrist party which would have been interesting.

I wondered if that's why she's been coming out with stuff like the limits to directors pay (obviously without sufficient details on how you'd actually do it) as they'll never get an easier run than Vs Corbyn, at least I hope Labour don't get still worse. If the Conservatives occupy the centre it's a hell of a longshot for whoever gets the Labour job, providing May can control the nutters in her own party, and she might be able to by keeping them busy over Europe negotiations.

May needs to keep any Remainians well away from the exit negotiations and leave those to Brexiteers. Meanwhile if she's got any sense she'll be carrying on the Osborne/Cameron project of making the Labour party an irrelevance by moving to the centre ground and leaving them only the most extreme positions from which to criticise.

I think she'll move them even closer to the centre on quite a few issues. Her statement this morning underlines that. I'm sure she'll be happy to let Brexiteers go at the negotiations - I believe she's already appointed David Davis as lead negotiator - as she is instinctively negative about the EU as a whole.

There was a piece in Private Eye this week about Leadsome. Former colleagues at the Treasury used expressions like 'worst minister ever', 'unable to understand complex issues or make a decision', 'she was monomaniacal about the EU, everything was their fault'.

bullet sort of dodged then, because she was getting some serious party support. But we still May be fooked, see what I did there.

She could have started with PMQs tbh, it's not like Corbyn does anything. Still, it's a chance to for those Conservative MPs who thought Cameron a soft liberal and not a real Tory a chance to get all emotional and pretend they like(d) him.
I'm interested to see what DC does next. Blair was young leaving office too, but he was tarnished by Iraq.

Highly likely.
It wouldn't surprise me if Gove were told to sort out Europe negotiations.

We'll see if there was a quid pro quo struck for a nicely 'rewarding' cabinet job. 'Something in the financial sector please, Theresa ?'.
I understand Leadsome's whole family are all very keen on offshore/hedge funds.
