To continue believing the lies is not only stupid. It denotes a certain degree of evil

Definitely seems like it's designed to be watched while tripping on acid, but makes a good point. The Nayirah testimony should have been investigated long ago. The US was going to investigate the WOMD claims but Obama cancelled that process as soon as he came to office. & what about the Chilcott Report? Are there no consequences to that? Nobody gets punished or anything? & that's exactly why it can go on and on. Britain has never really been held accountable for anything. A documentary was made some years ago on Caroline Elkin's Pulitzer Prize-winning account of British atrocities in Kenya. They even interviewed one of the high ranking officers involved, and there he was, living in complete comfort in his old age, still in denial about everything. Meanwhile geriatric Nazis were being hunted down for crimes they couldn't even remember committing...

Probably not, though there's no reason for it to be a taboo subject. That is obvious emotional blackmail and an impediment to freedom of speech.

Some interesting replies to the Guardian's latest attempt to rehabilitate war criminal G W Bush

Unbelievable

The deaths of 1 million Iraqis, and the staggering madness unleashed by Bush, is brushed aside by the Guardian editors as some historical aberration, another 'past and awkward' chapter in 'overseas adventurism'. Like Blair over Brexit, Bush is now being hailed by the Guardian as a 'welcome voice of reason' against Trump's irrationality.

Criticisms of the Iraq invasion and of Trump's incompetence need not be mutually exclusive. Insisting on such is not constructive.

I don't think that's the point, really. You wouldn't go ask Ratko Mladic or Charles Taylor for their opinion on Trump - and then publish their views amid glowing praise of their improved moral character. & these guys are small fry compared to Bush & Blair - at least if we're going to use body counts as a gauge.

moral equivalence?Really? Trump is a cunt. Bush was a cunt. Blair was a cunt. Can you see that they are all cunts and possibly critique their respective contribution to cuntiness in absolute rather than relative terms?

Still missing the point, Morepork. Bush & Blair are war criminals, and so is Obama too. The fact their war criminal nations prevent them ever facing prosecution merely compounds the issue. The amount of PR that has gone into trying to make GW look like anything less than a horrific war criminal since he ignited the ongoing holocaust in Iraq is absurd. & hoisting him aboard the Trump-haters' bandwagon is just another insult to our intelligence and sense of morality - not to mention the memory of his countless victims.

Sounds like a denialist's way of disagreeing, but lacking any rational argument with which to do so.

Poor G W. The alternative media has been so unfair to him. I mean, all he did was kill a million people or two and destroy a nation in the process, setting the stage for more wars of a similarly devastating nature throughout the region, culminating in a refugee tidal wave into Europe and all sorts of unpleasant business there. Now Trump on the other hand; he obviously deserves the entirely unprecedented savaging he has received from the mainstream media since becoming president a short time ago, because he has said unkind things about women and Mexicans - and the mainstream media itself, of course...

No surprise here. One of the many reasons I would have been sickened to see Killary become president   :

A death squad assassinated Berta Cáceres in La Esperanza, Honduras on March 3, 2016. It’s clear now that state agents killed her and that the United States helped out indirectly.

Cáceres belonged to the Lenca people who, living in southwestern Honduras, are Honduras’ largest indigenous group. As a student in 1993, she co-founded the Civic Council of Popular and Indigenous Movements of Honduras (COPINH in its Spanish initials) to protect her people and advance their rights.

COPINH people in 1994 marched to Tegucigalpa, the Honduran capital. They were demanding self-government for indigenous communities, a ban on logging, and cessation of violence against indigenous people. The government made promises.

Concerned about survival for small farmers and danger from big mining and hydroelectric projects, Berta Cáceres and COPINH opposed free trade agreements between Honduras and either Canada or the United States.

On June 28, 2009, the Honduras military removed President Manuel Zelaya from power. The U. S. government knew in advance about the plans. Zelaya had proposed a minimum wage, advanced land reform, brought Honduras into the progressive ALBA alliance, and introduced the idea of a constituent assembly. Berta Cáceres, with “unheard of courage,” led demonstrations against the illegal government succeeding his.

Today is the 49th anniversary of the My Lai Massacre, btw, during which American soldiers brutally slaughtered approximately 500 Vietnamese, including women, children and elderly, raping and mutilating along the way. The subsequent cover-up endured almost a year and went right to the top, while key witnesses receiving death threats and other forms of harrassment, before investigative journalist Seymour Hersh broke the story at the end of 1969. 14 officers were charged, but only 1 convicted. Not a single shot had been fired against the men of Charlie Company.

Doctor Bill Levingston was a 19th century American conman who went about selling snake oil as a cancer cure. He was constantly on the run, unsurprisingly. He abandoned his wife and lived a bigamous life in Canada, spawning a child, but then fled south of the border again after being accused of rape. But he was no doctor, and his real name was not Bill Levingston. He was William Rockefeller, and he proudly taught his sons the tricks of his trade. But John D and his brother William Jr got lucky, stumbling into the emerging oil industry, founding Standard Oil and ranking among the richest men in the world a century ago. What did this newly wealthy family do with its money? Firstly, it funded Eugenics in Germany, involving the sterilization of African and handicapped babies. It also sold oil to the Nazis. While their German business partners were prosecuted after the war, however, the Rockefellers escaped justice. Instead they went on to form the deep state of American politics with other billionares like the Rothschilds to control US foreign policy, and thereby gain control of global finance and resources. The Rockefellers were in league with the Shah of Iran when the CIA overthrew that nation's first democratic government, they supported the Suharto dictatorship during the communist genocide (mostly of Chinese immigrants) in exchange for access to Western Papua and its resources, and Senator Jay Rockefeller (great grandson of John D) supported the genocidal invasion of Iraq. Yesterday the latter's uncle, David Rockefeller (grandson of John D) kicked the bucket at 101. As the saying goes, only the good die young
