The issue and workings of last week have been identical to the Under 21s and that was why I felt it was important that I did this.

They are all issues I have dealt with and the pressure is greater and the players older.

The fact is he is an ex-professional player which years of experience of talking to the media plus he has coached before so will know the right things to say. I don't get the obsession with style over substance. Lets see what he can do with the team before judging his coaching abilities based on what he says.

Things I know about Wilshere, has talent but tends to be a little chubby and/or injured, has played for Arsenal, currently plays for Bournemouth, has played for England including as a holding midfielder ignoring he doesn't much tackle or otherwise break up play, was seen with a ciggy. So, Southgate seemingly bows to pressure and drops Captain Rooney for the next match under the pretence that it's tactical.

Your captain should be undroppable and perhaps only rested for friendlies and against weaker opposition such as Malta...at home!

Gareth dropped a bollock by naming Rooney permanent captain. It would've made far more sense to say he was going to rotate it among senior squad members as that would give him the chance to rotate a few players without the press jumping on someone being dropped.

Some of the criticism for dear Wayne is a tad harsh. He was our best player for a few years but international football shouldn't be about sentimentality. If your form is good enough, fair enough. If you're the best player for your position, you're in. Unfortunately, Rooney doesn't satisfy either requirement for me.

Well that was a bit shit. At least it was a contest though.

Saved by Hart on a few occasions with some very good saves. Dier's backpass was shockingly bad, as was Henderson's.

Thanks to Hart, we got a point but there was just no end product for England going forwards due to lack of movement in the final third. We can get up the pitch but run out of ideas outside their box.
