Southgate is then asked how the job differs to the Under-21 role:
The issue and workings of last week have been identical to the Under 21s and that was why I felt it was important that I did this.
They are all issues I have dealt with and the pressure is greater and the players older.
Genius.

Can't believe the media over-reaction to Southgate's first squad and press conference. Some were gushing over how he handled himself.
I don't get it?
I'm much more interested in what happens on the pitch than what the manager says into a microphone.

They're angling for access.

Aye, makes sense but it could also be the British media doing what they do best. Talk someone up then work to bring them down.
The fact is he is an ex-professional player which years of experience of talking to the media plus he has coached before so will know the right things to say. I don't get the obsession with style over substance. Lets see what he can do with the team before judging his coaching abilities based on what he says.

The press rarely say "There's nothing to report yet".

There was a footballer associated with a club in Birmingham whose behaviour tended to be a little akin to ROG when encountering the ladies, and he had the outstanding chatup line of 'hello I'm a footballer so I assume you'd like to have sex with me'
This person may or may not be connected to the current England squad, and may or may not have been married when playing for a club in Birmingham. And in any event it's not the sort of story one would expect the tabloids to be interested in, but I'd assume there must have been the odd Aaron Smith moment, albeit I also know the chatup line didn't always work.

Not really a 'tax dodge row', more like a 'lets see what we can say about the new England manager for bit
of controversy'. He's invested in quite a reputable compant that's now made some losses so he has to pay some
more tax. He's not tried to dodge paying tax in anyway shape or form. Typical 'The Scum' investgative reporting

England struggling to break Malta down.
It's all well and good bossing the possession stats but we should be burying the likes of Malta for fun.....at home too!

It's all going through Rooney and it's the most uninspiring bollocks ever. He just sits deep in midfield passes it left or right then receives the ball a couple of passes later and plays it the other way.

Dreadful movement off the ball.

Alli misses an open goal which would give England a thumping 3-0 win against the 176th ranked team in the world.
Just shocking. We haven't scored since the 38th minute and it took us half an hour to break them down.

I'd assumed the one time I encountered the line myself it was being directed at the lady sat on the other side of the table to me, but I suppose you never know.

That sounds more amusing than offensive. Certainly not a patch on Jack Wilshere's cowardly behaviour.

Things I know about Wilshere, has talent but tends to be a little chubby and/or injured, has played for Arsenal, currently plays for Bournemouth, has played for England including as a holding midfielder ignoring he doesn't much tackle or otherwise break up play, was seen with a ciggy. I'm guessing it's something else which warrants a white feather in his cap

So, Southgate seemingly bows to pressure and drops Captain Rooney for the next match under the pretence that it's tactical.
Your captain should be undroppable and perhaps only rested for friendlies and against weaker opposition such as Malta...at home!
Gareth dropped a bollock by naming Rooney permanent captain. It would've made far more sense to say he was going to rotate it among senior squad members as that would give him the chance to rotate a few players without the press jumping on someone being dropped.
Some of the criticism for dear Wayne is a tad harsh. He was our best player for a few years but international football shouldn't be about sentimentality. If your form is good enough, fair enough. If you're the best player for your position, you're in. Unfortunately, Rooney doesn't satisfy either requirement for me.

Wilshere is scum. Read the Judge's comments.......it's not often Judges are quite so definitive in their comments.
Scum,.....utter scum. Worse than Barton.

Well that was a bit shit. At least it was a contest though.
Saved by Hart on a few occasions with some very good saves. Dier's backpass was shockingly bad, as was Henderson's.
Thanks to Hart, we got a point but there was just no end product for England going forwards due to lack of movement in the final third. We can get up the pitch but run out of ideas outside their box.

Rumour has it that Southgate will get the top job if England beat Scotland next month. What a fantastic bar to set. Beat the team just tonked 3-0 by Slovakia.
I can't even find any news of the FA interviewing any other potential candidates so perhaps they're happy with hiring Southgate at no doubt a massively reduced salary to what Woy and Big Sam were on. Bonuses all round!
Come on Scotland!!!!

We don't even have to beat Scotland for Southgate to get the job!
Glenn said that Southgate would "still be in the frame" even if England lose their next two matches.
"He will almost certainly be a candidate. It's up to him to decide whether he wants to do it," added Glenn.
"The
preference would be for English because the missing link I think in getting consistent England performances in tournaments is linked to this issue of fear and pride, so the team identity.
Clueless.

Cause thats work well recently, and Sam was certainly missing a link!
