This was after two other men came forward and alleged to have had sex with her, one quite quickly after the alleged rape, with the details of the later episodes very similar to the version of events that Evans provided.

As a result, the conviction was no longer beyond reasonable doubt.

As an aside, the girl has had to change identities on numerous occasions as a result of an online twitter troll campaign where she is repeatedly named and threatened with violence.

Yes. It certainly muddies the waters at first glance. One would hope that their evidence was thoroughly cross checked, as much as possible, before being accepted. There is a bit of a backlash to this verdict, not unsurprisingly, and any potential for a stitch up would cause a serious stir.
