IHAT
The only conviction of the £60 million waste of time is one of its own team for impersonating a police officer.

And that's not been for a lack of trying. Frankly, it's been a witch hunt.

I didn't think an organisation did, or would ever, exist which made MPs more popular, but IHAT has managed it.

Been impressed with some of Johnny Mercers questioning. Admittedly it's from his official twitter page so it's a bit like watching highlights in the Embra site but still...Sandydragon wrote:I didn't think an organisation did, or would ever, exist which made MPs more popular, but IHAT has managed it.

The pushback he's had in not being as mute as the government would like is sadly all too expected. But yes, he does seem to have done well, and actually tried to do his job no matter it may inconvenience his career.OptimisticJock wrote:Been impressed with some of Johnny Mercers questioning. Me neither. He falsified evidence to launch investigations and frankly he should be the subject of criminal proceedings. At the very least, I hope some of the service men and women affected launch a class action against the fecker and take him for all he is worth.

He abused a process to cause wide scale misery and deserves serious punishment. Re: IHAT
I did wonder at Shiner's political motivations, but this really doesn't surprise me.
http://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/news/ ... -dxnljlmj7
So, basically in his pursuit of a political anti-war agenda, he demonised British troops and hounded innocent people for over a decade, determined to find problems where no evidence existed and wasted millions in the process. Being struck off is nowhere near enough.

Re: IHAT
Or just read this:
'The lawyer who dishonestly portrayed British soldiers as torturers during the Iraq war was a member of a campaigning group that included a renowned Holocaust denier.
Phil Shiner, who was struck off the solicitors’ roll last week after a tribunal found that he had breached professional rules that prohibit touting, was part of an organisation known as the Legal Inquiry Steering Group.
The group was founded in 2002 to produce “a strategy for abolishing war by fostering cross-party consensus” and included Nick Kollerstrom, who was sacked in 2008 from his role as an honorary research fellow at University College London after he made comments denying the Nazi campaign to exterminate Jews.
In a paper written that year, Mr Kollerstrom wrote that he hoped visitors to Auschwitz would be taught about “the elegant swimming pool . . . built by the inmates, who would sunbathe there on Saturday and Sunday afternoons while watching water-polo matches”.
In dismissing Mr Kollerstrom, the university said that his views were “diametrically opposed to the aims, objectives and ethos of UCL, such that we wish to have absolutely no association with them or with their originator”.
Other members of the steering group included respected academics from Newnham College, Cambridge, the University of Southampton and the University of Warwick. Groups represented included anti-nuclear campaigners and pacifist organisations such as Legal Action Against War and the Stop the War Coalition. One member of the group was Nicola Freedman, a human rights adviser at the time with Mr Shiner’s law firm in Birmingham, Public Interest Lawyers.
There is no suggestion that either Mr Shiner or Ms Freedman was aware of Mr Kollerstrom’s Holocaust denial views or shared them.
However, the Daily Mail described the steering group as populated by “conspiracy theorists” who were determined to campaign against British military actions.
It included a 9/11 conspiracy theorist, James Thring, who has been described by The Jewish Chronicle as an anti-Zionist. He also gave a speech at parliament at an event hosted by Jeremy Corbyn in August 2015, although Mr Corbyn said that he did not know Mr Thring was going to speak.
Mr Shiner had a long career of fighting the establishment and had been well respected before bringing hundreds of claims based on the army’s involvement in the Battle of Danny Boy in southern Iraq in 2004.
Claims brought on behalf of Iraqis triggered the £25 million Al-Sweady inquiry, which eventually dismissed most of the allegations against the soldiers.
It is estimated that Mr Shiner’s firm was paid £1.6 million of legal aid funding to bring the claims. The Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal struck off Mr Shiner after it found that he had breached a range of professional rules.
Another leading lawyer, Martyn Day, the senior partner of Leigh Day in London, who worked with Mr Shiner, will appear before the disciplinary tribunal in April, also in relation to allegations of wrongdoing around the Al-Sweady claims.'

I don't have the direct connection to this guys behaviour that you guys have, but I've kind of been watching the story like a slow motion car crash. I don't really care what the guys political beliefs are but he is clearly the lowest form of pond life going, and if the legal profession had any moral backbone, they would pursue a prosecution on top of striking home off.
I don't believe there is another country in the world that would have allowed Shiner and PIL to do what they did. Incomprehensible.

The cunt should definitely be prosecuted. I struggle to think how he would avoid a guilty verdict too.
Even if he was defended by a lawyer with equal or worse moral scruples than himself, I'm not sure a jury could be convinced of his innocence.

The turbocunt had the audacity to say the trial was causing him to be stressed. The jail would be too good for him.Stones of granite wrote:I don't have the direct connection to this guys behaviour that you guys have, but I've kind of been watching the story like a slow motion car crash. I rarely stick up for the SRA or SDT but a strike off and a hefty costs Order (yet to be decided but they have ordered him to make an interim payment of £250K) is about as much as they can do. Unfortunately, being a despicable cvnt is not a disciplinary offence. If it were there would be no lawyers left.
I hope/imagine the CPS are reviewing the file though.
