Not good news (well for me, anyway), the BBC fail to get the rights for Pro14 matches:

Hopefully S4C will get the Welsh language rights... but who knows at this point.
I can't see myself getting Premier Sports TV just to watch one match a week.
I guess it'll push attendances up though, so presumably the clubs will get more cash (plus from the new TV deal, of course), but it can only bring down the number of people who will see these matches. Will that erode the fan base in time? How much further can it be eroded?

Haven't Sky also dropped out? So maybe the new lot wanted exclusivity for GB coverage or something.
Either way, the new channel sounds rather dodgy to me.
Wales Online describing it as a hammer blow to the Beeb who will be the only losers here. Which seems an odd take; guess it depends on how much cash we're talking about, and whether or not the TV company goes bust within 3 years

It’s a risk. But more money for the regions can only be a good thing.

Some quick back-of-a-fag-packet maths here.
I've only seen this new deal being referred to as an increase over the BBC's offer; rather than the total offer of BBC+Sky.
PremierSport currently £10 a month for their channel; so that's £12M per 100,00 subscribers; they also need to (expect to) make a profit, and pay for the costs of running the broadcasts.
How many new subscribers do we think they consider realistic as a result of this deal?
Realistically targetting the fans of 10 clubs... so what? 200,000 subscribers?
If they reach that, they bring in an extra £24M; but need to take profit and production costs out of that.
I can't really see this deal being much of, if at all, an upgrade on BBC+Sky cash.
Of course, if it is a notable increase, and PremierSport can sustain it; then good for Pro14
ETA: FTR, I'd also be very concerned about over-reach by PremierSport - same owner/CEO as Setanta sport - remind me how that ended up.

Re: No more Pro14 on the Beeb
Sitting in the heart of England means Friday nights won’t be the same again during the season.
Shouldn’t the Wales Assembly man up and declare Welsh rugby to be the National sport (I know the argument against this!) and make it law that games can only be shown on terrestrial TV. To back this up the Assembly, the Scotland Parliament and the Irish Government should pay the Pro 14 the balance between the Premier deal and what the combined broadcasters offered.
Just a thought!!

Quite a bit of chat on the SMB about this. Could be a devastating blow for the Scots & the Welsh. Irish largely unaffected.
The benefit of the free-to-air access cannot be underestimated - especially in Wales! How long has Scrum V been going? Over 2 decades?
Premier sports does not have the viewing numbers or market share to make this work. They do not have an attractive enough sports portfolio to encourage people to take out premier or switch either. I will consider it if it gives me access to all Glasgow & Edinburgh games but I am still not happy about it.
