The nature of this knife attack yesterday on the Guildford to London service sounds horrific, and yet another savage use of knives by a violent assailant ( for whatever motive - not thought to be random on this case ) on a defenceless member of the public.
As an evolving society we appear to be lurching backwards to some degree.
Horrible for the victim's family, especially the son.I hope they receive the very best support to deal with this.
The latest is that the suspect was detained at an address in the Farnham area at around 06:00 GMT so pretty quick work by the Police.
It also fuels the debate on train staffing for public safety matters, which is an aspect in an ongoing dispute within Northern Rail, possibly others.

Re: Surrey Train attack
What a massive tragedy.
Imagine seeing your own father being stabbed to death in front of you.
I don't know what conclusions will be reached from the criminal investigation into what happened, but imo, this is just another example of mental health services being overstretched beyond capabilities. The NHS is seemingly at breaking point at many levels. Within the last few weeks, my partner's 97 year old grandfather has had to wait countless hours to be picked up by ambulances after falls and other ongoing issues.
When I was discharged from hospital after coming off my bike, and being readmitted shortly afterwards, there were multiple ambulances with patients on board waiting to get into the hospital.
I'm in no way defending the actions of the man who killed an innocent man on a train, and as I mentioned above, we still don't have all the facts, but if it does turn out that he needed help and couldn't get it. What an abysmal shower of shit is that?

Apart from the utterings and unusual position adopted in court, the surprising report in the press was following an altercation on boarding, it was the victim following the accused along the carriages when it escalated.
It's the carrying of the weapon and preparedness to use it in the most lethal manner that shocks as much as the fact that fatalities from knife attacks do not appear to be that rare any more.
