Racism in rugby

What do we think?

I'm thinking four weeks at a minimum.

As it was caught on the refs Mike, I think he is in trouble. I don't think they can ignore this.

Would have been a different game of England had only had 14 players for an hour....

Lengthy ban, I'd imagine, and richly deserved

Honestly England should ban him till the end of the season before the citing commission say anything , make him do a tonne of community service. Seriously the way the world is going I think a statement of zero tolerance should be made.

He said sorry at half time so that'll get at least 50% off any punishment he gets.

If it was caught on the Ref's mic why didn't he say something at the time FFS?!!

Because it was Joubert.

Does this all mean that nobody on Rugby Rebels can call me a Mick anymore?

No, it's fine. As long as we say sorry afterwards.

Because he was concentrating on something else. Loads of things are said within earshot of me without me hearing them.

Should get a ban but hopefully not too long a one

Because something was caught on a microphone doesn't mean he heard it in the melee. Give him stick when it's due, and there was plenty owing, but this doesn't warrant it. Ban for Marler surely.

Considering he's not being picked up for the cowardly forearm smash to a defenceless Rob Evans, I can't see anything happening with this

I think Joubert is a bottler and he certainly bottled a few big decisions yesterday. Although as others have said, he may not have heard it given the other things happening so probably deserves the benefit of the doubt in this instance.

Not too clever from Marler though.

That's endearment. If we call you a gippo, then call the citing commission

Shameful. Always thought Marler was a fucking tool. Hopefully a nice long ban.
I refuse to have a battle of wits with an unarmed person.

Forearm smash was definitely just a rugby incident. Unlike a cowardly attempt at an eye gouge.

(The racist comments should get Marler banned though)

Francis will rightfully cop a ban

It seems like school playground stuff, certainly doesn't reflect well on Marler but perhaps I'm missing out on some culture/history (quite likely) that makes it anything more than that? I would have thought there were a million worse things that have been said on the field. It's dangerous territory to say one prejudiced term is worse than another but it seems quite different to (trying not to be too specific here) the likes you might get from, say, a Chelsea fan/player.

Eh?

I've seen players sent off and banned for basically the same thing.

As for the racism... ee, sucks to be Quins. Without Marler all 6N, then he goes and gets himself banned just at the end. Or at least I hope he does, it would be shameful if he didn't.

I don't see how it's different.

As I say, there may be a lot of history to it I'm unaware of, it just reminds me of playground insults and I don't want to see people getting banned for calling each-other ginger or four-eyes either.

How precisely is this a RACIAL/ETHNIC?NATIONAL ORIGIN epithet?

Are travellers a "race" or distinct ethnicity? I think we can rule out the national heritage part straight away no?

Gippo - mostly regarded as a derogatory temp for gypsy - ( not exclusively) Roma people.
