That was not a forearm smash - it was just a bit of good-natured banter.

Apparently, he admitted foul play. Yet, a forearm smash to the head is not a red card offence.

Where the hell is the consistency in the citing process?

Marler's missing the game Saturday anyway. He's going to a Trump rally instead.

I'm really getting to the point where I'm done with rugby. The inconsistency and corruption makes wrestling look credible.
It's time that club's and unions challenge the sports administration legally. If one of their players receives a ban that is longer than a previous one in similar circumstances then they should challenge it through the courts. I dread to think what the length of ban would have been if a Welsh player had of racially abused one of England's black players.
The message rugby is sending out is that it is acceptable to racially abuse someone in the heat of the moment as long as you apologise later, and a forearm smash to the face is fine.

It really is a laughable process. I'm not a fan of this citing bollocks as it has no benefit to the team that was on the other end and after this I'd be tearing players bollocks off all over the pitch without worrying about a ban, especially if I was playing for England.

Mental isn't it? you can see the intent in his face as he does it. For Francis to get 8 weeks and he gets off with bugger all on 2 counts shows what a farce our game is. I couldn't care less about the gypsy boy comment if I'm honest but the elbow and intent was clear to see before he admitted it.

Quite. He pauses, looks then lines up a deliberate strike which catches Evans in the face. It might not have been a punch, but a forearm or elbow strike can do just as much damage. I'd love to say Im surprised he got away with it, but Im not.

Joe Marler to face World Rugby hearing over 'Gypsy boy' comment

England prop Joe Marler will face an independent World Rugby misconduct hearing for calling Wales forward Samson Lee "Gypsy boy".

Six Nations organisers had ruled Marler would not be punished for his comments made during a game on 12 March.

But World Rugby, which governs the international game, says his remarks "amount to misconduct and/or a breach" of its code of conduct.

The case will be heard "as soon as practically possible".

Marler apologised to Lee, who is from the Traveller community, at half-time during England's 25-21 win over Wales at Twickenham.

The Harlequins player was subsequently reprimanded by England head coach Eddie Jones, but the decision not to sanction him caused upset.

Campaigners from the Traveller community - and figures inside the sport - were critical of Marler for making the comment and called for a ban.

Personally feel that the "striking with the elbow" thing is a load of guff. How many times do props of all nationalities go in like that at virtually every ruck?
As for the comment, it would be interesting to hear/see the transcript of what Lee has said about his "Gypsy" heritage.

No worries, I'm sure any ban he might get will end before England's next game.

Im not convinced, With the Olympics inclusion World Rugby will be under alot of pressure to be cleaner than clean,

what sport today accepts anything other than zero tolerance to racism

Reckon he may well get a couple of books thrown at him to eliminate any aparent relaxation about racism

but then again he may well get a slap on the wrist

I suspect it will be a ban for a reasonable number of games, whether that takes him up to the next English internationals - who knows.

What people seem to be missing is that if this happened in private, or on an amateur rugby field the incident could have been dealt with locally. Assuming no one complains to the police, on any given Saturday afternoon the ref would deal with this, assuming that he heard it in the first place. Otherwise that would be an end of it. Two things make this so much worse, firstly the ref cam pick up to millions of viewers, and then millions more once the story broke. And the fact that Marler is a pro-sports man. Fair or not, we expect different standards from people in their professional lives. What I say to or in private is no one elses business, but if I uttered a racist comment whilst I was on duty, I would get in serious trouble. Not only is it now my employers business but there is also an issue with professional standards.

Unfortunately, 6N rugby have royally screwed this up. There is an article on the Fail regarding 6 questions they have presented to the 6N Committee. One of the most intriguing is that when Marler escaped punishment for the elbow strike, the panel of independent adjudicators was name. But we don't know who decided to drop the racist issue. WHy not, if the process is above board and clear cut then the names of those involved and a record of decisions should be available.

6N have really not covered themselves with glory on this one; in fact the only person who has emerged unscathed is Samson Lee.

What relevance does what Lee has said about his "Gypsy" heritage have?

Also with regards to the elbow, it's more the inconsistency that people get pissed off about. Henson got 13 weeks? originally for imo a lesser offence.
