Re: Congratulations to England
Can we shut the forum until June when they'll get buttfucked by the Aussies and brought back down to earth?
No, joking aside, best team this six nations. Congratulations.

Re: Congratulations to England
'the best team in the 6 Nations' seems damning England with faint praise but they were & thoroughly deserve the trophy
after 13 years of being devalued its good to see the tournament back to being held in such high esteem again
congratulations to England on winning it for the next 10 years too

No need to bring us back down to earth. I think we're all well aware it wasn't the highest quality this year, even by recent standards.Ross. S wrote:Can we shut the forum until June when they'll get buttfucked by the Aussies and brought back down to earth?

I think we also know that we have issues at 2, 3, 7, 9, 12, 11 and 15 (you can chop and change a couple of those positions dependant on poster). We also don't have a scrum or attack coach. Tbh, the only unit that doesn't need significant change is second row.
As we're being magnanimous, I wonder who would've won the tournament had we swooped coaches.

Re: Congratulations to England
I'll join in the congratulating. England built on each game, and were the best team in the tournament. If they iron out some of their problems they have the makings of a seriously good team.

Re: Congratulations to England
Well done England - a change of coach and a change of a few of the team and you look like you have a plan for the future
Good luck in Oz.
PS. I wasn't sure it was good use of the license payers money flying Michael Cheika over to Paris so he could be on the BBC panel and check out England in their last meaningful game before they tour Oz on the summer

Re: Congratulations to England
Congratulations to England - well deserved. If you look at some other forums - and the BBC comments, which are generally hilarious, there seems to be a lot of bitterness about it. I don't understand this - winning a grand slam is not easy so they deserve it. They actually played as a team too (well maybe not Mike Brown so much).
US coming second is not too shabby and for all the moaning about Gatland, that is a damn sight better than the 90s and most of 00s. There was a glimmer of something different in attack - only a glimmer, but it was there, and with the U20s starting to come through, our future looks ok.

Best of the bunch. Well done. If England are better it should stir us to get better. Good.

Re: Congratulations to England
You only have to beat what's there. England were the best team in the tournament by a comfortable distance, and they played with smartness and style. No arguments.
Of course there's angst about it around these parts, and that's not just sour grapes. It's also born of fear. Those of us old enough to remember the dark times had been enjoying a prolonged period of English underachievement as the pain of those days slowly faded. Now that's over, they're champions again, with every chance that they might be able to finally convert this success into the long-term dominance that the bare numbers say they should always have. Like a Conservative government, a successful England is very hard to get rid of. Of course we knew it had to happen eventually, but so does arthritis and that's no fun either.

If the Aussies are up for it, that will be a real test. Assuming their pack is as stable as it was in the RWC, I think it will be a good tour.Nightynight wrote:Sourdust wrote:You only have to beat what's there. Our penalty machines will see England playing matches with 14 men most of the 80mins.

No need to lay it on that thick, they really aren't that good that we should be worrying about the dark days again.Sourdust wrote:You only have to beat what's there. England were the best team in the tournament by a comfortable distance, and they played with smartness and style. No arguments.

Agree they were the best and most consistent of the tournament. Agree a more dynamic England under Eddie will push us all on a bit. If we met again tomorrow we probably thump them.
Gerald Davies, what was he doing there?!

Hardly, the post is a bit OTT, congrats and all that but it's no use pretending that this is a new dawn or most teams in the tournament weren't below par.Banquo wrote:Master baiter!Billyfish wrote:No need to lay it on that thick, they really aren't that good that we should be worrying about the dark days again.Sourdust wrote:You only have to beat what's there. Re: Congratulations to England
Not sure anyone (other than the usual suspects) thinks other than a small step forward from the unfortunate RWC showing not the dawning of a new era. A new coach can have an effect without doing anything with the same players You guys have been there and seen it! Bearing in mind I would say the other teams were better last 6N, it is still an achievement to win a Grand Slam. Despite some self proclaimers, very few believe that a Grand Slam can in any way be 'devalued'. There are a number of the games which were won but with serious issues; both Ireland and Wales would, I believe have been put to the sword quite easily by New Zealand, with the way they played, Italy made us work until late on, as did Scotland and everyone knows France were poor the whole tournament.Billyfish wrote: Hardly, the post is a bit OTT, congrats and all that but it's no use pretending that this is a new dawn or most teams in the tournament were below par.
Still onwards and upwards! Hopefully Wales can go to New Zealand and catch them rusty in the first test and play like they can, if so I can see them coming away 2-1 down. I think England will come away from Aus 2-1 down as well!
